An inductive vertical or horizontal read/write head element for use in rigid magnetic disk files. The element is comprised of at least three spaced apart poles, each of said poles having a flux path extending from said head means, magnetically connecting said path, and at least two electrical coils positioned about said flux paths for inducing a flux in said flux paths. The element also has tracking capabilities when the first and last poles are offset from the other poles, which are essentially aligned.

Compound read/write element for rigid magnetic disk files

A method for monitoring characteristics of a magnetic recording head which is flying in an air bearing relationship over a rotating magnetic recording disk containing Fe.sub.2 O.sub.3 detects triboelectric charges generated by intermittent contact between the head and the disk and also detects modulations in the spacing between the head and the disk surface when the two are not in contact.

Circuitry for measuring magnetic head flying characteristics

Sensor apparatus for taking position signals from either ignited or extinguished cell positions at intersections of the column and row coordinate conductors of a gas tube display screen associated with an information handling system. The sensor apparatus includes a hand-held stylus having a plurality of spaced plates that capacitively interact with the adjacent row-column conductors as signal potentials are applied thereto by the normal gas panel addressing circuitry. The capacitive interaction of the plates causes signals to be picked up from the row-column conductors, the signals being differentially amplified to give a detect signal of the stylus position on the display which has a high degree of resolution, the detect signal in combination with data from the addressing circuitry giving a row-column (X-Y) coordinate address indication of the stylus on the panel for utilization in any associated information handling system.
