A storage bin for handling and discharging plug flow material uses shrouds to prevent wedging of plug flow material such as refuse derived fuel between vertical screws and the end walls of the bin. The bin is divided into two separate sections by the vertical screws. Wedging of plug flow material in both bin sections and material discharge is then stopped. The shrouds force the plug flow material into the active surface area of vertical screws and continuous discharge through an elongated discharge aperture is assured. Two horizontal screws are used to further augment material discharge beneath the elongated discharge aperture. The two horizontal screws are parallel and the bottom of vertical screws are between the two horizontal screws.

Live center bin modification

A method and apparatus for manufacturing the screw flight section of a screw conveyor is disclosed. The apparatus includes two horizontal arms which extend from a vertical support and at the terminal end of these arms there are dies for engaging the inner and outer peripheral edges of a flat, sheet metal, annulus-shaped blank with a radial slit. One die is turned on its longitudinal axis while the other remains stationary so that the blank is twisted. After the blank is circumferentially displaced relative to the dies, it is again twisted in the above described manner. This procedure is repeated around the entire circumference of the blank with the result that a helical form is applied to the blank.

Method for manufacturing a screw flight

A hog granulator for plastic material in which a plurality of longitudinal knives are arranged on a rotor inside a cutting chamber to engage in a cooperative cutting action with bed knives on the cutting chamber walls. A plurality of spaced, longitudinal pockets in the peripheral surface of the rotor bring cooling air to the cutting surfaces, and ribs are arranged across these pockets to reduce power requirements by preventing excessively large pieces of plastic material to be reduced from being received into and taking up residence in these pockets.

Hog granulator

A method and apparatus for mixing granular, particulate or pulverant material is disclosed. An unhomogenous mixture of two or more such materials is introduced into and moved through a preferably inclined trough structure having rigid side walls and a flexible floor member. At one or more isolated positions on this floor member it is subjected to relatively intense vibrational motion. It is found that such restricted use of vibrational motion results in a thorough yet gentle mixing of granular, particulate or pulverant materials.

Method and apparatus for mixing particulate material

A disc type refiner, for paper pulp processing and the like, is provided with an automatic control mechanism to prevent contact-clashing of the refiner plates on short term losses of feed and to sense the long term losses of feed so as to open the refiner plates before contact-clashing occurs. The control mechanism includes a counter-force-producing means acting in opposition to the refining or attrition force-producing means such that, on either short or long term loss of feed, resistance to plate clashing is provided. Moreover, the counter-force-producing means is monitored and the monitor provides signals to actuate, in cooperation with other control devices, a desired sequence of operative steps to effectuate either the continuation or the discontinuation of the refining operation.

Plate adjustment system

An improved pressurized disc refiner having a pair of oppositely facing non rotating refiner plates and a rotating disc having refiner plates on each face thereof juxtaposed the non rotating refiner plates. The rotating refiner plates and at least one of the non rotating refiner plates are axially adjustable to compensate for wear and to insure that an equal and opposite thrust force is produced on opposite sides of the rotating refiner plates. During the plate changing operation, both of the non rotating refiner plates are independently movable axially along the drive shaft away from the rotating disc for simultaneous access to both of the non rotating refiner plates and both of the rotating refiner plates to facilitate changing of the refiner plates. The refiner has a split mechanical stop to limit movement of the axially adjustable non rotating refiner plates axially away from the rotating refiner plate during the refining operation of the apparatus. The refiner also has one or two horizontal inlets located on the side of the refiner.
