A Transcranial Magnetic Stimulator (TMS) is used by a patient to treat a variety of human disorders including migraine headaches. The device has an electronic device to charge a capacitor to a high voltage which creates a high current in a magnetic coil which produces an intense magnetic pulse applied to the patient's head for treatment of migraine headaches or to other patient body parts to treat other disorders. The TMS may be reprogrammed remotely over the Internet to add additional pulses or additional time that the patient may use the TMS, during which time the TMS would continue to function. The data in the TMS may be sent over the Internet to the patient's physician and/or to a monitor to send the data to the company that manufactured the TMS.

Transcranial magnetic stimulation device for the treatment of migraine headaches

A transcranial magnetic stimulation (TMS) device has at least one capacitor. A charging circuit charges the capacitor. The TMS device includes a magnetic coil for delivering magnetic pulses to a person's body. A bleed resistor is within the TMS device to minimize forces applied to the bleed resistor where the bleed resistor is aligned with magnetic field lines generated by the magnetic pulses.

The magnetic coil has two or more turns which are encapsulated with a plastic material composition for preventing motion between adjacent turns of the coil.

An automated method and system for determining an optimal focus distance for scanning a molecular array scanner. Blocks of rows of a reference array are automatically scanned at successively greater distances of the stage from a light gathering medium, such as an optical fiber, or z-positions, to produce data providing a functional relationship between z-position and measured signal intensities. The data is then processed by a peak-height-based, or window-based, focus-finding routine that selects an optimal focus-distance for data scans.

Method and system for automated focus-distance determination for molecular array scanners

A trigger node for a measurement and control system which enables relatively precise timing in the application of stimuli and/or measurement of responses without specialized adaptation of analog signaling to the measurement and control system. A trigger node according to the present teachings includes a synchronized clock that maintains a time using a synchronization scheme that provides the timing precision needed for the application of stimuli and/or measurement of responses. A trigger node according to the present teachings further includes mechanisms for asserting a trigger signal when the time from its synchronized clock matches a trigger time associated with the trigger signal. Multiple trigger nodes may be used to coordinate the timing of multiple measurement and control devices by appropriately setting the trigger times in the trigger nodes.

A transducer assembly for connection with a digital signal processing system includes an analog transducer, a digital connector assembly movable relative to the analog transducer to facilitate connection with the digital signal processing system, and a cable permanently affixed between the analog transducer and the digital connector assembly to convey an analog transducer signal therebetween. The digital connector assembly includes a connector housing, a digital connector mounted by the connector housing to mate in a detachable manner with the digital signal processing system, and transducer interface circuitry disposed within the connector housing in a non-removable manner and including a digital storage device programmed to store digital transducer data, such as transducer identification, configuration settings and calibration or correction factors, for retrieval by the digital signal processing system. The transducer interface circuitry can also include signal conditioning circuitry and a microcontroller. Incorporating the transducer data memory and interface circuitry in the connector housing allows conventional transducers to be used without modifying existing mounting techniques and, at the same time, provides traceability of the transducer and its calibration data.

A distributed adaptable measurement network, which has flexible sensor or actuator nodes, takes multiple single valued measurements, such as temperature, pH, density, turbidity, velocity, breakdown strength, and strain as a function of time. The network can control large scale physical processes in response to these measurements. The flexible sensor or actuator node uses interchangeable common core modules, where each common core module uses a common description for data configuration and control of the measurement and response parameters. Although many physical variables can be affected, each variable is controlled in the same fashion. A transducer module selects the physical variable to which the common core module will be sensitive and whether its role will be that of a sensor or an actuator. The network may also contain system transducers which can control or alter the initial measurement and response parameters selected by the transducer module.

Smart distributed measurement and control system with a flexible

The local clocks within each node of a loosely distributed network system may be synchronized and syntonized by any of the nodes in the network. Each of the nodes contains a time packet detector (TPD) that detects and recognizes timing data packets and produces a recognition signal. This signal may be used to cause an action in the detecting node, in particular the node may contain a time service block (TSB) containing a local clock that may be used to record the time of the recognition signal. The recorded times may be used as the basis for correcting the local clocks of the nodes in the system. Transfer devices such as gateways, bridges, and routers may include TSBs and TPDs to allow for correction for the transit time of time packets through the transfer device. The TPD is normally connected within the media access device at the point of final encoding for transmission or recovery of the clock and data for receiving where the time jitter will be at a minimum.
