A one-piece container formed from a single unitary blank of corrugated paperboard has a bottom wall, opposed side walls and inwardly inclined opposed end walls. Stacking tabs project upwardly from the end walls and tab locks in the bottom wall receive the stacking tabs of a subjacent container when the containers are stacked on top of one another. A reinforcing corner post extends the full height of the container in each corner. The corner posts are formed by panels extending from opposite ends of the end walls, wherein the panels include a first panel foldably joined to an end of an associated end wall and adhered to an adjacent side wall, a second panel foldably joined to the first panel and extending diagonally across the corner, and a third panel foldably joined to the second panel and adhered to an adjacent side wall.

This invention relates to stackable, open-topped, partially-lidded, and/or fully-lidded shipping and/or display container, and more particularly to a corrugated paperboard stackable container for shipping and displaying products such as, for example, agricultural produce.

A stackable container for carrying produce. The container has tapered side walls or end walls to aid in the stacking of like containers. Also, the container has locking flaps that allow the container to be erected manually and without the need for fasteners. Further, at least one tapered wall of the container has a reinforcement flap that creates a partial top structure in the upper part of the container that helps prevent bulging of the walls. The reinforcement flap also creates doubled stacking tabs and diagonal corner posts that aid in the stacking of like containers.

A stackable container has a bottom panel, upstanding sidewalls, upstanding end walls, and an open top. According to one aspect of the invention, narrow reinforcing flaps are attached to the upper edge of at least one of the side and end walls, defining a stacking ledge and reinforcing the walls against outward bulge. The reinforcing flaps extend over only a small portion of the height of the side or end wall, and corner post flaps extend from opposite ends of the reinforcing flaps, extending diagonally across interior corners of the container. According to another aspect, the side and/or end walls lean inwardly, defining a narrower footprint at the top of the container than at the bottom. In a specific embodiment one of the walls leans in more than the other. According to a further aspect, an indexing and aligning tab extends upwardly from an upper edge of the container, and a complementary notch is formed in a lower edge for receiving the tab when the containers are stacked. According to a still further aspect, stacking tabs extend upwardly from the upper edge of the container, and slots are formed in the bottom panel for receiving the tabs when containers are stacked. Locking flaps extend into the slots to frictionally engage and hold the tabs.

A container () for shipping products has opposed end walls () and opposed side walls (), each having an inner wall panel (and, respectively) and an outer wall panel (and, respectively) defining double thickness walls. The outer wall panels in the side walls are disposed orthogonally to the outer wall panels in the end walls to define a rectangular or square outer container configuration, and extension panels () on opposite side edges of a first pair () of the inner wall panels extend diagonally across interior corners of the container to define with the inner wall panels an octagonal inner container configuration. Bottom flaps (and) foldably connected to the bottom edges of the outer wall panels form a peripheral bottom wall (), and include quick-lock detents (and) to enable quick and easy set up of the bottom. In one embodiment ('), a reinforcing panel () is formed in two of the inner wall panels, and is foldable to a position between the inner and outer wall panels, at the top thereof, to reinforce the walls of the container. A blank (B, B&#x2032;) for making the container (&#x2032;) is also disclosed.

A tongue shaped friction lock is integrally formed in a dust cover or a bottom panel of an open-topped container and positioned to capture the stacking tabs of an adjacent open-topped container. The friction lock provides a small opening through which a stacking tab may be inserted, while at the same time pushing up a locking flap, which pivots up and frictionally engages the stacking tab. A strip of reinforcing tape is embedded within the dust cover and allows one to remove and reuse the dust cover without tearing the tongue lock or the surrounding portions of the dust cover.

A substantially flat and planar dust cover has at least one opening formed through it near at least one edge for receiving a stacking tab on an open-topped container when the dust cover is applied to the container. A narrow strip of material is defined between the opening and an outer edge of the dust cover, and a strip of reinforcing tape is embedded within the edge of the dust cover to reinforce the narrow strip of material and prevent tearing of it or surrounding portions of the dust cover. A tongue shaped friction lock is integrally formed in the opening to capture the stacking tab.

A one piece container, particularly adapted for the packaging of grapes and fashioned of corrugated paperboard, exhibits three thicknesses of paperboard over the major extent of its end walls. Each of two top closure panels is provided with latching tongues for insertion into slots in respective upstanding ears at each end wall. The upstanding ears are adapted to fit in complementary recesses in the bottom of a similar container stacked thereon. Vertically extending channels are located at respective corners of the container for stacking strength.

A container for produce is formed from a flat unitary blank of corrugated paperboard. The container sides include length and width panels and four corner panels. The container bottom is preferably formed by four interlocking panels, each of which is foldably attached to the bottom edge of a respective length or width panel. To facilitate erection of the container from its shipping, flattened configuration, a generally triangular gusset is provided at the lower end of each corner panels, foldably secured to the latter along one of its three sides. A second side of each gusset panel is foldably secured to respective minor bottom panels secured to the width side panels. The third side of each gusset panel is a free side or edge, not being connected to any panel. Each gusset panel is folded over on itself and located between adjacent bottom panels. Upon folding of the minor panels towards each other, the gussets cause the container to assume an octagonal configuration.
