Microbial growth inhibiting solutions and methods of employing the microbial growth inhibiting solutions in flushing and coating medical devices are disclosed. In alternative embodiments, the microbial growth inhibiting solutions include combinations of a chelating agent with a C-C, Cor Ccarboxylate antimicrobial agent, for example, such as n-capric, n-lauric, or n-octanoic acid. Methods of using these microbial growth inhibiting solutions for coating a medical device and for inhibiting catheter infection are also disclosed.

Microbial growth inhibiting solutions and methods of employing the microbial growth inhibiting solutions in flushing and coating medical devices are disclosed. In alternative embodiments, the microbial growth inhibiting solutions include combinations of a chelating agent with a C-Ccarboxylate antimicrobial agent, for example, such as n-capric, n-lauric, or n-octanoic acid. Methods of using these microbial growth inhibiting solutions for coating a medical device and for inhibiting catheter infection are also disclosed. Methods of using these microbial growth inhibiting solutions, or portions thereof, as leaching treatment solutions to treat polymer syringes and the treated syringes are also disclosed.

Microbial growth inhibiting solutions and methods of employing the microbial growth inhibiting solutions in flushing and coating medical devices are disclosed. In alternative embodiments, the microbial growth inhibiting solutions include combinations of a chelating agent with a C-Ccarboxylate antimicrobial agent, for example, such as n-octanoic acid. Methods of using these microbial growth inhibiting solutions for coating a medical device and for inhibiting catheter infection are also disclosed.

Echogenic medical devices, methods of fabrication and methods of use are disclosed. The device can be adapted to be inserted into a patient. The echogenic construction can be incorporated into the device at the time of fabrication providing acoustic impedance different from that of the surrounding biological tissue or fluid. The medical device is designed for use with an ultrasound imaging system to provide real-time location of the insertion and guidance at the time the device is implanted in a patient, such as in brachytherapy. Following placement of the device the position can be evaluated over time to insure the device remains in proper alignment and functional. Furthermore, the device is designed to incorporate a spacer element at one or both ends to provide separation between radioactive elements.

A movable work support particularly adapted for use within a silo or similar cylindrical structure is disclosed herein. The work support comprises a frame supporting a work platform and a winch mechanism. A cable extends from the winch to a point of securement at the top of the cylindrical structure, and extension or retraction of the cable from the winch mechanism will cause the framework to lower or raise, respectively. A first pair of wheels is located at an end of the frame opposite the location of the work platform. The first pair of wheels is positioned to engage the side wall of the structure and to roll along the side wall as the frame is moved vertically. A second pair of wheels is mounted near the first pair of wheels on the frame and is oriented to roll along the side wall as the frame is rotated in a horizontal plane within the structure. The first and second pairs of wheels are located such that the center of gravity of the work support is displaced from the point of attachment of the cable at the top of the structure in a direction away from the pairs of wheels. The frame is thereby urged in the direction of the pairs of wheels to ensure frictional engagement of the wheels with the side wall of the structure.
