Provided are separation systems and related methods for use in processing organic polymeric feed materials—such as plastics—to form pyrolysis oil. The disclosed systems can be operated in a continuous manner and utilize novel liquid-solid separation techniques integrated with a novel condensing approach so as to operate in a product-efficient and an energy-efficient manner.

Separation systems and methods for processing organic polymeric materials

Provided are systems and related methods for processing organic polymeric feed materials—such as plastics—to form pyrolysis oil. The disclosed systems can be operated in a continuous manner and utilize novel liquid-solid separation techniques integrated with a novel condensing approach so as to operate in a product-efficient and an energy-efficient manner.

Liquid-solid separation systems for processing organic polymeric materials

An operations unit, comprising: a first chamber; a second chamber; a conduit extending through the first chamber and into the second chamber, the conduit being at least partially enclosed by a conduit jacket that defines an outer diameter, the conduit placing the second chamber into fluid communication with an environment exterior to the chamber, the second chamber comprising a wall facing the conduit jacket, and the second chamber being rotatable relative to the first chamber; a seal defining a boundary between the first chamber and the second chamber, the seal extending radially from the wall of the second chamber toward the conduit jacket, the seal comprising a flange, the flange defining an inner diameter, (a) the seal comprising a layered portion that comprises a plurality of ring-shaped portions, or (b) the seal comprising a brush that rotatably abuts the conduit jacket.

A method for protecting an aircraft component from ice formation uses a thermally conductive film. The film includes a polymer, an electrically conductive material, and a sufficient concentration of hexagonal boron nitride to provide adequate heat transfer properties, and have high thermal conductivity, peel strength, and shear strength. The films can include thermoset polymers, thermoplastic polymers, or blends thereof, and can also include reinforcing materials such as fiberglass, carbon fiber, metal mesh, and the like, and thermally conductive fillers, such as aluminum oxide, aluminum nitride, and the like. The films can be included in composite materials. The films can be used as part of a layered structure, and used in virtually any application, for example, various locations in aircraft, where heating is desirable, including nacelle skins, airplane wings, heated floor panels, and the like.

Methods of protecting an aircraft component from ice formation

The service life of fiber-reinforced polyimide composites in a high temperature oxidative environment is extended by coating with a polyimide coating precursor solution that is synthesized by reacting an aromatic dianhydride with an aromatic diamine in a non-reactive solvent. The reactive solution is heated to a temperature sufficent to reduce its viscosity prior to its use as a coating. Preferably, a mixture of meta-phenylenediamine and para-phenylenediamine is reacted with biphenyldianhydride in n-methyl pyrrolidinone solvent and thereafter heated to between about 50.degree. C. (122.degree. F.) and 150.degree. C. (302.degree. F.) under nitrogen while stirring for a time sufficient to obtain a polyamic acid polyimide precursor coating solution having a Brookfield viscosity of from about 500 to about 5000 cP and a solids content of from about 5 to about 35 weight percent.
