A user interface for receiving time entries in a timesheet is described. This user interface includes a user-interface element in the form of a calendar, where the calendar contains one or more time entries associated with at least a financial activity. Moreover, a given time entry, which is associated with a corresponding block of time, is graphically represented as an adjustable region in the calendar. Additionally, a user can change one or more temporal parameters associated with the time entry by using a pointing device to select and modify one or more geometric properties of the adjustable region.

A method, apparatus, and article of manufacture for managing and displaying a plurality of views of information in a graphical user interface, with views grouped together to form a stack upon which operations that jointly manipulate the views may be performed. A viewclip mechanism is associated with a stack to provide one or more mechanisms for performing actions on the stack such as shuffling forward and backward through views, directly accessing specific views, and unlocking a stack to permit views to be added or removed from the stack. The stack is represented as a single frame which displays one of the views at a time as its contents. Frame manipulation mechanisms, e.g., minimizing, maximizing, resizing, and repositioning, may be applied to the frame to jointly manipulate display characteristics of the plurality of views in the stack.

In a computer database system, a method and system are provided for interactively and iteratively constructing a query using a table metaphor displayed on a user display. Alterations are made directly to the table metaphor by the database user. The alterations relate to adding, deleting, or combining columns of attributes and limiting ranges of attribute values. The alterations are registered and the table metaphor updated to reflect the registered alterations. The table metaphor can be repeatedly used to further register additional alterations. The query corresponding to the table metaphor in its final form is run against the full database to generate a report in the format indicated by the table metaphor.
