A secure placard and a method of producing the secure placard are disclosed. A substrate includes a first portion and a second portion. The first portion of a substrate has varnish applied thereto and a holographic pattern is formed in the varnish. The substrate also includes a second portion that is free of the varnish. The second portion of the substrate is adapted to be printed on using a heat-based process without damage to the holographic pattern.

Secure placard and method for producing same

A point of purchase label construction for being associated with a displayed item for purchase. The label construction includes a label face stock, an opaque liner ply, the first face of the liner ply having an adhesive release coating portion and a release coating free portion. A line of weakness is disposed in the liner ply separating it into a first portion having the release coating for being readily removed to expose adhesive on a portion of the face stock, and a second release coating free portion. That exposed adhesive is pressed into contact with a surface of a point of purchase display so that the point of purchase indicia is readily visible. The second portion of the liner ply may have point of purchase indicia so that it can be bent to define a point of purchase flag.

The invention broadly comprises a multi-ply integrated label form including a first ply having an upper side and an underside and having a first die cut window and a second die cut window, and also having an integral marginal feed strip along a first edge of the first ply and a detachably secured marginal feed strip along a second edge of the first ply, where the first edge and second edge are parallel to one another; a second ply having a label portion, a card stock portion adjacent to and detachably secured to the label portion, a marginal strip portion adjacent to and detachably secured to the card stock portion, and a marginal feed strip portion adjacent to and detachably secured to the marginal strip portion, each of the label portion, card stock portion, marginal strip portion, and marginal feed strip portion having an upper side and an underside, the underside of the label portion and of the marginal strip portion being coated with an adhesive, wherein the first ply is removably secured to the second ply; and, a third ply comprising a first portion and a second portion, each of the third ply first and second portions having an upper side coated with a release material, the third ply first portion being in register with the second ply label portion and removably secured thereto by the adhesive, and the third ply second portion being in register with the second ply marginal strip portion and removably secured thereto by the adhesive.

Multi-ply integrated label form

An intermediate for making repositional or removable adhesive backed labels is provided which facilitate the construction of labels that may be readily dispensed with automatic equipment, and/or readily passed through printers. A first paper layer has permanent adhesive on a first face and the repositional or removable (preferably repositional) adhesive on a second face, the repositional adhesive also in contact with a first face of a liner material, with a second face of a liner material having a silicone coating. The liner material first face has a non-highly calendered texture, uncoated with adhesive release material so that the repositional or removable adhesive adheres well to the liner material first face, although the repositional adhesive has greater affinity for the first paper layer second face than the liner material first face. The intermediate may be placed in a spiral roll configuration, and then used to make a label precursor by bringing a second paper layer (e.g. about 12 lb. bond paper) into contact with the permanent adhesive layer. Labels are die cut out of the label precursor through the second paper layer so that when the label is removed from the label configuration it has a top face which is a face of the second paper layer and the repositional adhesive defines a bottom face thereof, or the label may be a patch in a much larger business form.

A business form, from which a laminated card may be formed, is produced by spot coating silicone-release material on the back of the web or sheet which forms the business form, covering slightly more than a card-sized area, and then applying a clean release material to the back of the web or sheet covering the coating of silicone release material and another area from which a card may be die cut. The back may be imaged before application of the clean release material, and the face of the laminated card to be formed is imaged with variable (and perhaps non-variable) indicia, e.g., by a laser printer. The clean release material is die cut through the adhesive and clear plastic layers, but not the baseliner. To form the laminated card, the second card is removed, exposing the pressure sensitive adhesive of the clean release material underlying it, the first card is folded over to release from the baseliner underlying it and to bring its imaged face into contact with the exposed adhesive, and the laminated front and back first card is peeled away from the baseliner that underlied the second card.

A business form uses a dual label construction to advantage, particularly in association with express delivery forms. A first sheet of paper has a first face with indicia and a second face with a first pressure sensitive adhesive system. A second sheet, substantially the same size and shape as the first sheet, has a first face, and a second face with a second pressure sensitive adhesive systems. The adhesive systems preferably are alternating strips of pressure sensitive adhesive release material, with small gaps between them, so that when the second faces are placed in face-to-face engagement with each other they will separate, providing adhesive on each of the second faces. The second sheet may be a substantially transparent plastic such as polyester, which may be placed over the first sheet, to protect it, after the first sheet has been adhered to a surface (e.g., a package for express delivery). The adhesive systems may be UV or corona treated to cure the release material strips and modify the tackiness of the adhesive. Alternatively, the second sheet first face also has indicia on it, and a number of perforations separating it into individual labels, e.g., each with bar coding. The first sheet first face may have a carbonless coating, and a third, and additional, sheets with cooperating carbonless coatings may be provided operatively connected over the first sheet.

A combination shipping label/invoice form, including a shipping label section detachably secured along a dividing border to an invoice section, the shipping label section bordered at a first edge by a first marginal strip and at a second edge by a second marginal strip, the invoice section bordered by a third edge and a fourth edge, the shipping label section being wider between the first and second edges than the invoice section between the third and fourth edges, such that folding the invoice section along the dividing border and against the shipping label section results in the invoice section lying between the first and second edges of the shipping label section, where the lower side of the first and second marginal strips is coated with adhesive.

A pressure seal mailer assembly compatible with non-impact printing techniques includes paper stock with at least three interconnected and foldable panels and pressure activated adhesive along plural edges thereof. There is at least one opening in one of the panels and a removable card located and releasably held within the opening. In addition, there is a laminate assembly applied to one side of the paper stock covering at least the opening therein, wherein part of the laminate assembly remains with the card after it is removed from the paper stock.

Integrated card construction

A packing list or bill of lading may be easily manufactured from an intermediate comprising a single sheet of paper so that the form can be printed in either cut sheet or continuous format in a simple manner with a minimum amount of adhesive for attaching the form to a package, and with a maximum useful area on the form for informational indicia. The business form is constructed typically by Z or eccentrically Z-folding an intermediate about first and second fold lines to define three plies with aligned first and second lines of weakness formed in the plies substantially parallel to the first and second side edges of the plies and defining first and second detachable side strips preferably between about 1-1.25 inches wide. Patterns of pressure activated cohesive hold the detachable side strips of the plies to each other, and patterns of pressure sensitive adhesive covered by release strips and disposed only in the detachable side strips hold the form in contact with a package when the release liners are removed. Informational indicia may be imaged on both the top and bottom faces of both the second and third plies between the first and second lines of weakness, while the first ply top face has outgoing address indicia, as well as instructional indicia on how to detach the business form from a package. Informational indicia may also be imaged on the bottom face of the first ply.

An intermediate for a card holder, the card holder produced from the intermediate, and a method of making the card holder, are provided which are particularly useful for easily and efficiently making and attaching a card holder to a library book, or other object that a card holder is desirably associated with. The card holder is formed from an intermediate having a first (e.g. paper) ply, a second release liner ply, and pressure sensitive adhesive or cohesive holding the plies together. Various die cuts and lines of weakness (such as perf lines) are provided in the plies so as to facilitate easy assembly of the card holder from an integral sheet by removing various die cut strips or sections in sequence to readily fold the intermediate after imaging (for example with a laser printer) and then apply the card holder formed with the pressure sensitive adhesive or cohesive already associated with the intermediate, to a library book or the like.

A release liner for business form and label constructions comprises a substrate of carbonizing bond paper having a weight of between about 35-80 grams per square meter. A radiation (e.g. U.V.) curable silicone polymer blend is coated on the first face of the substrate with a coating weight of between about 0.8-2.3 grams per square meter. The silicone polymer blend comprises a large part base silicone polymer and optionally up to 40% of tight release additive, about 1 to 5% photoinitiator, and possibly substantially inert ingredients. A paper face of the form or label having a weight of between about 65-99 grams per square meter has a hot melt permanent or removable pressure sensitive adhesive on one of its faces, either applied directly or transferred to it if coated on the silicone, the adhesive in contact with the release liner. The form or label is substantially curl free after running through a laser printer.

A combined business form/identification card includes a sheet of cellulosic stock material having a barrier coating on a first portion of the sheet with an overlay of laser-printable varnish on the barrier coat. Lines of weakness are provided in the sheet in the area of the barrier coat and varnish to produce an identification card detachable from the sheet. A second portion of the sheet has indicia imaged thereon.

A business form (preferably continuous) with self-contained labels has significant versatility and a number of advantages. A cellulose ply is applied larger than a release liner ply, while the release liner ply may be provided so that one edge (e.g. with tractor drive holes) extends past a substantially parallel edge of the cellulose ply. At the opposite edge of the release liner ply adhesive release material is provided along between about 10-50% of the length of the edge so that the release material covered portion of the edge is not substantially permanently adhered to the edge by the adhesive between the plies. This allows the labels formed in the cellulose ply where overlapped by the release liner to be removed from the back or front, and allows one to separate the release liner ply completely from the cellulose ply for ease of recycling. The method of making the forms typically uses a conventional Webtron press.
