A method and apparatus for correcting signal differences between at least two adjacent parts of a radiation-sensitive sensor, each containing a contiguous set of radiation-sensitive sites read out through a respective separate electronic processing mean, by increasing the perimeter of the border between the adjacent parts of the sensor read out through separate electronic processing means and using at least one set of adjacent values from each of the adjacent parts to compute a correction to be applied to a signal read out of at least one of the adjacent parts.

Image sensor multiple output method

Apparatus for image capture via a blemished sensor, comprising: a large area pixel based image sensor being actuatable to move between a first image capture position and a second image capture position, an image capture controller for controlling said sensor to move between said image capture positions during an image capture operation thereby to take a sub-image at each one of said positions so that each part of an image subject is captured by at least two separate pixels of said sensor, and an integrator, associated with said sensor, for integrating said sub-images into a single full image. Preferably, the sensor is tested to find blemish positions and a shift is calculated that minimizes the number of blemish positions that superimpose between the two pixel positions.

Method and apparatus for capturing images using blemished sensors

A Simple Inter Color Lossless Image Coder (SICLIC) for the compression of colored images is provided. The color image is treated as several interlaced gray level images that correspond to respective distinct color planes. The compression scenario utilizes three main steps, such as selection of the predictor, context forming with bias cancellation and coding. SICLIC implements predictors, context forming and encoder techniques that exploit the intra- and inter-color plane correlations in an effective and relatively computationally inexpensive manner. The predictor is selected on the basis of the right selection of the contribution of each color plane between the intra- and inter-plane predictors obtained as a weight average of contribution from different color planes. SICLIC processes the image in two modes&mdash;regular mode and run mode. A special care is taken to ensure a proper treatment of joint runs, which occur simultaneously in all color planes.

Method and system for compression of images

Apparatus for the orthogonal (X,Y) movement which allows high-resolution color photography in both the X and Y directions, by micro-movement of the CCD sensor within a digital camera body is provided which can be used together with a rotatable mount for rotating the CCD sensor from portrait mode to landscape mode, without needing to rotate the camera base.

Apparatus for orthogonal movement of a CCD sensor and a method of light sampling therewith

There are disclosed methods for quantizing image data with signal-dependent noise to a fewer number of values so that noise information is discarded while signal information is maintained. This is achieved by deriving a set of equations, the solution to which may be numerically computed and whose solution constitutes an optimal relative mean square error quantization for a signal with noise. Two low complexity explicit heuristic formulas for quantization are also provided. Also disclosed are methods for compressing image files containing signal dependent noise by means of near lossless compression so as to maintain signal information in the compressed data while discarding noise information, and methods for compressing multi-component color image data so that psycho-visually significant color information is maintained in the compressed data while other color information is discarded and a method for compressing multi-component color image data which is linearly proportional to high dynamic range light intensities so that color information significant for display and printing is maintained in the compressed data while other color information is discarded.

Methods for quantizing and compressing digital image data

Apparatus and a method for semi-automatic retouching of digital images is provided. The method includes the steps of processing the digital image to obtain a list of candidate defect segments, computing statistics for a list of candidate defect segments and for the segments of the image surrounding the candidate defect segments, selecting a sublist of defect segments in accordance with pre-determined criteria using the computed statistics, displaying the image together with the sublist and amending the values of the sublist of defect segments to obtain a retouched image.
