An apparatus eliminates a differential phase shift, &#x394;&#x3b8;(f), between a double sideband suppressed carrier modulated angular rate information signal and its sinusoidal demodulation reference signal in a gyroscope angular rate sensing circuit including a signal reference source. The apparatus includes a demodulator, a phase shifter in a demodulation reference signal path, the demodulation reference signal path being between the signal reference source and the demodulator. The phase shifter is configured to adjust a phase of the sinusoidal demodulation reference signal. A phase locked loop (PLL) includes a phase detector, a servo equalizer, and a dual-frequency, numerically controlled oscillator. The PLL is configured to provide a demodulation signal based on the phase shifted demodulation reference signal, and a phase shift command source is configured to provide an input to the phase shifter to command an appropriate phase adjustment.

Methods and apparatus for delay free phase shifting in correcting PLL phase offset

An apparatus is described which reduces a time delay and a resultant phase shift in a gyroscope motor drive signal. The motor drive signal originates from a numerically controlled oscillator whose output is sampled at a predetermined rate. The apparatus includes a first element which upsamples the oscillator output signal samples and a band pass filter configured to receive an output from the first element and remove spectral components from the output of the first element. The apparatus further includes a third element which generates a tuning parameter, &#x3b2;', for tuning of the band pass filter and a scaling multiplier configured to normalize an output of the filter.

Methods and apparatus for generating a sinusoidal motor drive signal for a MEMS gyroscope

In a filtering system, a first input receives a signal contaminated with noise. A second input receives a noise reference signal. Each notch filter in a set of M notch filters is responsive to a corresponding tuning coefficient so as to attenuate a corresponding noise frequency in the signal contaminated with noise. A tuning parameter generator responds to the noise reference signal by generating a tuning parameter corresponding to a fundamental frequency of the noise and tracks that fundamental frequency. A filter coefficient generator responds to the tuning parameter by providing each of the M notch filters with the corresponding tuning coefficient. A gain normalizer adjusts the overall gain of the M notch filters.

Harmonic-series filter

An adaptive resonance canceller system and method for attenuating narrowband noise signals within an input signal, where the narrowband noise signals may vary significantly in frequency. The sensor comprises a notch filter, an error reference and gradient generator, and a complex correlator circuit for attenuating the narrowband noise component of the input signal. The input signal is applied to the notch filter and to the error reference and gradient generator. The latter component generates an error reference signal and an error gradient signal. These two signals are applied to the complex correlator circuit which, in turn, generates a tuning parameter signal which is applied to the notch filter to tune the filter to the center frequency of the noise component of the input signal. The tuning parameter signal is also applied in closed loop fashion to an input of the error reference and gradient generator such that the error reference and error gradient signals can be modified in accordance with the changing frequency of the noise component. The system and method are particularly well adapted for use with solid state sensors used for generating body rate signals for attitude control in a flight control system, wherein it is undesirable to introduce any phase shift to the body rate signal.

Adaptive resonance canceller apparatus

An apparatus for controlling an amplitude of a signal generated from a digitized sinusoid of rapidly and widely varying amplitude is described herein. The apparatus includes a two stage gain adjuster which produces a gain adjusted signal, a phase shifter which converts the gain adjusted signal into two gain adjusted output signals separated in phase by 90 degrees, a power estimation unit to estimate the power of the gain adjusted signal, and an adjusting unit to adjust a gain of the gain adjuster according to a power estimate from the power estimation unit and a desired output signal power.

Methods and apparatus for automatic gain control

The resonant frequency of a device is determined by energizing the device with a short burst of energy to produce a decaying sinusoidal output, determining coefficients of a linear difference equation characterizing the decaying sinusoidal output by use of a least-mean-square fit, and determining the resonant frequency from the coefficients. The Q of the device can be determined from a decay parameter of the envelope of the decaying sinusoidal output and from the resonant frequency.

A system and method for extending the range of a base unit is disclosed. The system can include repeaters and/or network decoders, each of which is housed in a network module. The network module includes a first portion for insertion into a powered outlet. The first portion receives power from the powered outlet. The network module further includes a second portion for receiving a powered device, and an electronic housing that is coupled to the first and second portions. The electronic housing encloses an electronic unit for receiving power from the first portion and selectively providing power to the second portion. The electronic unit can also include a repeater for receiving commands and re-broadcasting the commands, and/or an active network device for receiving commands, decoding the commands, and controlling at least one device based on the command. The electronic unit can receive signals and transmit signals via a wired connection or a wireless link.

System and method for extending the range of a base unit

A system for testing a microelectronic circuit includes a test bed for mounting a microelectronic circuit, and a signal source for applying a signal to a microelectronic circuit mounted on the test bed. The system additionally includes a test probe for wirelessly receiving electromagnetic response signals from the microelectronic circuit mounted on the test bed. In a preferred form, the electromagnetic response signals are radio-frequency signals. The test system additionally includes a computer connected to be test probe for analyzing the electromagnetic response signals. An integrated circuit for testing on the test system has a test circuit portion that emits electromagnetic radiation in response to a predetermined signal applied to the test circuit.

Methods for wireless testing of integrated circuits

Noise is removed from the digitized output of a sensor, subject to undesired resonance, even when the resonant frequency is unknown or drifts, with sufficiently low phase delay for the sensor to be used in closed-loop control. A very narrow notch filter which removes the resonance-induced noise is recursive (IIR) and therefore has a low phase delay. However, the apparatus which determines the center frequency of the notch filter is non-recursive, and therefore stable. It includes a tunable FIR filter which tracks the same resonance that we wish the IIR filter to remove. Tuning the FIR filter to minimize the output of the FIR filter therefore tunes the notch frequency to align with the resonant frequency. The tuning parameter which adaptively produces this result is suitably scaled and biased, and is applied to the IIR filter.

Adaptive removal of resonance-induced noise

A digital phase locked loop includes an automatic gain control that applies a gain to an input signal in order to provide a gain controlled signal. A 90&deg; phase shifter applies a 90&deg; phase shift to the gain controlled signal in order to provide a 90&deg; phase shifted version of the gain controlled signal. A phase detector is driven by the gain controlled signal, by the 90&deg; phase shifted version of the gain controlled signal, and by sinusoidal and co-sinusoidal signals. A loop filter integrates an output of the phase detector and provide servo equalization for the phase-locked loop. A digital dual frequency oscillator has a fundamental frequency controlled by an output signal from the loop filter. Also, the digital dual frequency oscillator generates the sinusoidal and co-sinusoidal signals.

A system is provided for communicating location and other related information of a field unit to a remote base station. The field unit generates position signals based on signals received from communication with a plurality of GPS satellites. These position signals are transmitted to a remote base station, where they are processed and displayed. The field unit includes an environmental circuit having devices for determining an environmental condition and producing an environmental signal representative of the environmental condition. The environmental signal is also transmitted to the remote base station for processing and display. The field unit is also provided with a cellular link circuit for transmitting the position signals and the environmental signal to the remote base station via a cellular link.

Field unit for use in a GPS system

A method and apparatus for sensing audio frequency-pressure modulation of the moisture content of the atmosphere caused by a moisture-laden audio source, such as a live human voice, is disclosed. A first light emitter is provided to generate a first light beam. An audio source that emits moisture, and the environment, modulate the first light beam to generate a first modulated light beam. A first detector is provided to detect and demodulate the first modulated light beam to recover an uncompensated audio signal. A second light emitter is provided to generate a second light beam. The second light beam is modulated by the environment and not by the audio source to produce a second modulated light beam. A second detector is provided to detect and demodulate the second modulated light beam to recover the signal component caused by environmental conditions. A differential amplifier is provided to generate a compensated output signal representing the difference between the uncompensated audio signal and the signal component caused by environmental conditions. The output signal can be transmitted for amplification, distribution, and/or recording.

Method and apparatus for sensing an audio signal that is sensitive to the audio signal and insensitive to background noise

A solid-state gyroscope in a closed flight-control loop produces a DSSC QAM body angular-rate output signal and a drive current, which is converted to a demodulation reference signal. The frequency of the demodulation reference signal drifts slowly. A digital complex AM demodulator must demodulate the rate-output signal and correct the phase shift with as little delay as possible. This demodulator employs three elemental Hilbert transformers (EHT), one for direct current (d.c.) blocking and two for phase shifting. The gains of these Hilbert transformers shift with the drive frequency. In order to hold signal-path delays to a minimum, the gains of the Hilbert transformers are held to unity by means of a simple Least Mean Squared (LMS) adaptive loop whose output feeds the gain multiplier of all three Hilbert transformers. Automatic phase-shift correction is also included by adaptively rotating the demodulator reference phase in order to decorrelate the outputs of the demodulator.
