In an assembly of a balloon mounted on a catheter and a stent mounted over the deflated balloon, the balloon is provided with a fugitive plasticizer before the stent is crimped over the balloon. The fugitive plasticizer can soften the balloon surface so that molding of the balloon surface to conform to the crimped stent occurs. The fugitive plasticizer is removed before the assembly is used.

Fugitive plasticizer balloon surface treatment for enhanced stent securement

Medical devices and methods for making and using medical devices are disclosed. An example medical device may include an elongate shaft including a first tubular member and a second tubular member. A balloon may be coupled to the shaft. A first member may be coupled to the first tubular member and positioned within the balloon. A second member may be coupled to the first tubular member and positioned within the balloon. A medical implant may be coupled to the shaft and positioned adjacent to the balloon.

Stent delivery system having stent securement apparatus

A balloon catheter stent deployment system is disclosed wherein a balloon catheter is provided and a tubular stent is crimped onto a distal portion of the balloon with a distal end of the stent in close proximity to a point where the distal end of the balloon is attached to the inner tube of the catheter. A proximal section of the balloon extending from a proximal end of the stent to a point where the proximal end of the balloon is attached to the outer shaft of the catheter remains uncovered by the stent and, has a larger uninflated outer diameter than the crimped stent. Thus, in some embodiments, the proximal section of the balloon provides a protective cone for the proximal end of the stent to help resist frictional forces from disengaging the stent from the balloon in the event the balloon catheter and stent are withdrawn back into a guide catheter during a procedure. A stepped enclosure is also disclosed which is used in a disclosed fabrication method to allow the proximal section of the balloon to be inflated after the stent is crimped onto the distal section of the balloon.

Asymmetric stent delivery system with proximal edge protection and method of manufacture thereof

A balloon catheter may comprise a primary inflation balloon and a secondary inflation balloon located to one side of the primary inflation balloon. The secondary balloon comprises a first portion and a second portion, the first portion located closer to the primary balloon. The second portion has a greater size than the first portion, and a portion of the second portion extends outwardly beyond the first portion and overhangs the first portion. In some embodiments, a cross-sectional shape of the secondary balloon in an inflated state comprises a mushroom shape.

Auxiliary balloon catheter
