A nebuliser outlet comprises an inlet end and an outlet end, a first channel and one or more second channels arranged between the inlet end and the outlet end. The first channel is configured to receive a capillary, and the one or more second channels are configured to pass gas to the outlet end. The nebuliser outlet is a single integrated component.

Described is a fluidic manifold that includes a block formed of multiple layers each bonded to at least one adjacent layer at a layer interface. Bonding may be achieved using a diffusion bonding process. The block includes one or more attachment surfaces and at least two fluidic channels. Each fluidic channel is at least partially disposed at one of the layer interfaces and has a first end at one of the attachment surfaces. Each attachment surface includes an attachment feature at the first end of one of the fluidic channels to enable a fluidic coupling of the two fluidic channels through a fluidic component. Attachment features include, for example, a compression fitting coupling body adapted to receive a conventional seal, such as a ferrule and compression screw, and a fitting body that permits a face seal or gasket seal between the fluidic component and the block.

Reconfigurable fluidic manifold for a liquid chromatography system

A liquid-chromatography module includes a microfluidic cartridge housing a microfluidic substrate with a channel for transporting fluid. The microfluidic substrate has fluidic apertures through which fluid is supplied to the channel. One side of the cartridge has nozzle openings, each aligning with a fluidic aperture in the microfluidic substrate and receiving a fluidic nozzle. A clamping assembly has a plunger that is movable into a clamped position and an end housing that defines a chamber. One wall of the end housing has a fluidic block with fluidic nozzles extending into the chamber. A second wall has a slot through which the cartridge enters the chamber. When moved into the clamped position while the cartridge is in the chamber, the plunger urges the cartridge against the fluidic block such that each fluidic nozzle enters one nozzle opening and establishes fluidic communication with one fluidic aperture in the microfluidic substrate.

Described are techniques for use with a sealing member forming a static seal or a dynamic seal at a surface thereof. The sealing member has at least the surface thereof formed from one of VESPEL&#xae; SCP 5000 material or VESPEL&#xae; SCP 50094 material.

Static and dynamic seals

An apparatus for chemical separations includes a microfluidic substrate having an outlet aperture for outputting an eluent of a sample, a spray unit having an inlet to receive the eluent and an outlet to emit a spray of the eluent, and a force-applying unit. The spray unit has a deformable portion defining the inlet and having an elastic modulus that is lower than an elastic modulus of the microfluidic substrate. The force-applying unit, such as a spring, is disposed to urge the deformable portion in contact with the substrate to form a substantially fluid-tight seal.

The invention comprises apparatus for use with atmospheric pressure ionization sources in which an aerosol is formed from a solution of a sample. The aerosol is received in a hollow member and discharged outside the chamber of the ionization source in order to reduce contamination of the ionization source itself by involatile material in the solution and by previously analysed samples. The hollow member is easily removable from the ionization source to facilitate cleaning and replacement. Ionization sources, mass spectrometers, and ion mobility spectrometers comprising the apparatus are also described.

Device, apparatus and methods for mass spectrometry

An apparatus for performing chemical analyses includes a mass spectrometry module and an interface module that processes sample materials for delivery to the mass spectrometry module. The interface module includes a vessel having an opening to access a vessel chamber, a door to block the opening, a sealing member disposed between the door and the vessel, and an interlock. The interlock is actuated by the sealing member if the door is in the closed position and the sealing member is properly disposed between the door and the vessel to seal the vessel. The sealing member alternatively includes an indicator portion that is visible to an operator if the door is in the closed position and the sealing member is properly disposed.

Mass-spectrometer interface housing

A sealing means is provided that may be used, among other things, for sample injection apparatus used in liquid chromatography. The seal includes a jacket having a central bore through which a hypodermic needle containing a sample is inserted. The jacket includes a U-shaped cross section having an inner axial surface and an outer axial surface. Metal cylindrical bands which function as springs are positioned tightly against the inner and outer axial surfaces respectively. Each band has a slot extending through its thickness and along its entire axial length.

Fluid seal

Floating the diaphragm portion of a diaphragm sensor in the pressurizing fluid frees the diaphragm from exterior housing forces, and makes overall manufacture and replacement inexpensive. A diaphragm can be protected from exterior stress by interspersing a channel between the diaphragm edge and the closure and support structure of an enclosing housing. By extending the channel and incorporating an adequate seal, the diaphragm structure may be made replaceable. The replaceable diaphragm further allows use of a smaller amount of costly materials, and makes repair less costly.
