A learning alarm includes a sensor operatively connected to a processor to detect environmental properties and an alarm operatively connected to the processor to provide an alert if the environmental properties are outside an acceptable range. A user interface is operatively connected to the processor to accept user input indicating an alert corresponds to a nuisance condition. A memory is also operatively connected to the processor for storing detected environmental properties corresponding to the nuisance condition. The processor is configured to suppress alerts from the alarm based on detected environmental properties corresponding to the environmental properties of the nuisance condition stored in the memory.

A system for obtaining performance information is provided and includes a condition detector configured to output the performance information as an optical signal, an optical probe wirelessly disposed in signal communication with the condition detector, the optical probe including a photodiode configured to receive the optical signal and to output an electrical signal accordingly, a data converter, which is coupled to the optical probe and configured to convert the electrical signal into data representative of the performance information and a computing device, which is coupled to the data converter and configured to allow for analysis, display and/or storage of the data representative of the performance information.

Another method includes before transmitting a radio frequency signal, turning on the radio frequency communications device for a period of time, and delaying transmission if the radio frequency communications device receives a header, deadtime and startbit. Yet another method includes sending a test signal at a first transmission power level, and sending an alarm signal at a second transmission power level greater than the first transmission power level.

A detector assembly is adapted to be removably secured to a female electrical receptacle connected to a power supply where the female receptacle is mounted at a surface of a structure. The detector apparatus includes a housing and an electrically powered circuit mounted in the housing. The circuit includes components operable to detect an alarm condition (such as carbon monoxide or smoke) and to provide an alarm in response to the detection. A primary power source includes a male electrical connector secured to the housing and extending outwardly there from. A secondary power source includes a battery connector mounted within the housing and adapted to removably receive a battery contained within the housing. The circuit is adapted to draw power from the secondary source in the event of a detected loss of power from the primary source. The apparatus includes a sensor for sensing displacement of the housing from the female electrical receptacle. The circuit is adapted to provide an alarm in response to the displacement of the housing from the mounted surface.
