An adsorption method is disclosed for removal of acid gas from a sulfur compound stream. The method relates to a novel process to remove acid gas from a sulfur compound stream by adsorption on an adsorption media adsorbent followed by regeneration of the adsorption media after the adsorption capacity has been reached. The adsorption media comprises an activated alumina, which has been previously treated with one or more alkali metal compounds, one or more alkaline earth metal compounds, or a mixture thereof; and then regenerating the adsorbent after the adsorption capacity has been reached.

Process to prepare low carbon disulfide containing dimethyl sulfide

A process for purifying a fluid stream contaminated with carbon dioxide is provided which comprises contacting, under conditions sufficient to substantially remove the contaminated carbon dioxide from the fluid stream which contains at least one C,-C,olefin such as ethylene or propylene, with A mixture containing an oxygen-containing metal compound such as, for example, an alkali metal hydroxide, and an inorganic oxide compound such as, for example, silica or alumina.

Olefin purification

A process for purifying a fluid stream contaminated with carbon dioxide is provided which comprises contacting, under conditions sufficient to substantially remove the contaminated carbon dioxide from the fluid stream which contains at least one C.sub.2 -C.sub.5 olefin such as ethylene or propylene, with a composition containing an oxygen-containing metal compound such as, for example, an alkaline earth metal hydroxide. The contacting is carried out in the presence of water.

A selective hydrogenation of an alkyne in an olefin-containing fluid is provided which comprises contacting the fluid and hydrogen gas with a catalyst in the presence of at least one sulfur compound, under reaction conditions effective to produce at least one alkene wherein the catalyst comprises at least one alkali metal, fluorine and an inorganic support material.

Selective hydrogenation process

A catalyst composition comprises palladium, at least one chemically bound alkali metal (preferably potassium), chemically bound fluorine and an inorganic support material (preferably alumina), wherein the atomic ratio of fluorine to alkali metals about 1.3:1 to about 4:1. Preferably, silver is also present in the catalyst composition. The above-described catalyst is employed as a catalyst in the selective hydrogenation of C.sub.2 -C.sub.10 alkynes (preferably acetylene) to the corresponding alkenes in the presence of sulfur impurities.

Alkyne hydrogenation catalyst and process

A catalyst composition comprising palladium, silver and a support material (preferably alumina) is contacted at a relatively low temperature (of up to about 60.degree. C.) with a liquid composition comprising an effective reducing agent (preferably an alkali metal borohydride, hydrazinc, formaldehyde, formic acid, ascorbic acid, dextrose, aluminum powder). Preferably, at least one alkali metal compound (more preferably KOH, RbOH, CsOH, KF) is also present in the liquid composition. An improved process for selectively hydrogenating acetylene (to ethylene) employs this wet-reduced catalyst composition.

Selective acetylene hydrogenation

A catalyst composition comprising palladium, silver and a support material (preferably alumina) is contacted at a relatively low temperature (of up to about 60.degree. C.) with a liquid composition comprising an effective reducing agent (preferably an alkali metal borohydride, hydrazine, formaldehyde, formic acid, ascorbic acid, dextrose, aluminum powder). Preferably, at least one alkali metal compound (more preferably KOH, RbOH, CsOH, KF) is also present in the liquid composition. An improved process for selectively hydrogenating acetylene (to ethylene) employs this wet-reduced catalyst composition.

This invention relates to the preparation of poly(dithio thiadiazole) by combining an oxidizing agent, a dithio thiadiazole, and an aprotic polar solvent thereby producing a polymer precipitant which may then be washed to remove residual contaminants.

Synthesis of poly(dithio thiadiazole by oxidative polymerization

A cobalt carbonyl phosphine complex useful for hydrogenation of cyclic polyenes to corresponding cyclic monoenes is prepared by reaction of dicobalt carbonyl and a phosphine compound in at least one non-oxygenated aliphatic solvent. Selective hydrogenation of the cyclic polyenes comprises an induction period during which the polyenes are contacted with the cobalt carbonyl complex catlayst under hydrogen pressure followed by decreasing the reaction temperature and pressure for a period of time sufficient to complete the hydrogenation.
