A method and arrangement in a distributed system for synchronizing configuring data at a receiving unit with corresponding source configuring data. The configuring data and the source configuring data are arranged in one or preferably several groups of data. Reference checksums are calculated () for each data group. The receiving unit determines () whether the content in each data group of the configuring data at the receiving unit matches the corresponding reference checksum. The receiving unit requests () the source unit to transfer copies to the receiving unit of the source configuring data in those data groups for which a mismatch is detected. The requested data is downloaded () from the source unit to the receiving unit.

Method and arrangement in a distributed system

A telecommunications system comprises a source base station (BS), a destination base station (BS) having a synchronization searcher (s), and a synchronization start position determination unit () which establishes a start position (SP) of a synchronization search window for the synchronization searcher of the destination station. The synchronization search window detects, for synchronization purposes, a transmission of the specified mobile station received at the destination base station during a handover of a connection involving the specified mobile station from the source station to the destination base station. In accordance with an aspect, the synchronization start position determination unit establishes the start position of the synchronization search window with reference to a calculated distance of the mobile station from the destination base station.

Using geographical coordinates to determine mobile station time position for synchronization during diversity handover

The present invention relates to a method in a CDMA-based communication system for power allocation and control of the downlink channels of a base station having a fixed maximum permitted downlink power level. The method includes the steps of estimating the total needed downlink power for a subsequent time interval and, if necessary, restricting the downlink power for selected subsets of user equipments by means of rejecting their requests for a downlink power increase. Admission and congestion control is done by means of analyzing and evaluating the number of rejected power requests from said user equipments.

Method for allocating and controlling downlink power in a telecommunication system

A telecommunications system has a source base station (BS) and a destination base station (BS), and a handover unit () having a dynamic offset threshold determination unit () which establishes a dynamic offset threshold for starting soft handover. When the dynamic offset threshold for soft handover is exceeded, a preliminary portion of a handover sequence is initiated at the destination base station. The preliminary portion of the handover sequence is initiated so that a time-critical handover sequence activity (such as Luplink synchronization) is well underway, if not completed, by the time the soft handover is actually needed. The dynamic offset threshold for starting handover is based on a probability that the mobile station will engage in the handover. The probability is a statistical probability that handover will actually occur based on handover history of other mobile stations previously and similarly traveling and of the same signal strength. Another portion of the soft handover sequence (e.g., a remaining portion of the soft handover sequence) is initiated when the signal strength from the destination base station as received at the specified mobile station has a predetermined relationship to a fixed offset threshold.

Dynamic offset threshold for diversity handover in telecommunications system

A mobile telecommunications system comprises a mobile user equipment unit and at least one node through which a packet switched data session is established between the user equipment unit and a data network. One of the node and the user equipment unit serves as a transmitter of segments of data packets and the other of the node and the user equipment unit serves as a receiver of the segments of data packets. If the first lost segment is not received within a timed interval, and if a second lost segment is also lost during the timed interval, at expiration of the timed interval the receiver sends a selective acknowledgment message to the transmitter which requests retransmission of both the first lost segment and the second lost segment. The acknowledgment messages of the system have a unique format including start sequence number and a variable size bitmap field. The start sequence number (ssn) is mapped to a first non-received segment in a receive buffer; the first bit in the bitmap maps to a segment with a sequence number equal to the start sequence number. In differing embodiments, the bitmaps of the acknowledgment messages may have or may not have a stop bit. The transmitter has a poll timer that is started/restarted and canceled in accordance with novel timer operational rules.

Link layer acknowledgement and retransmission for cellular telecommunications

A transmit power load balancing technique in accordance with the present invention is used to increase the overall communication capacity of a radio communications system without incurring substantial, additional control signaling. An overloaded connection in a first cell serviced by a radio network is detected, and a second nearby cell which is not overloaded is identified. For a radio user node that has a connection with the radio network, radio transmission from the first overloaded cell is prevented or at least avoided in the downlink direction from the radio network to the radio user node. Instead, a radio transmission associated with that connection is established or otherwise permitted from the second cell in the downlink direction to the radio user node. In a preferred, non-limiting, example embodiment, the prevented or avoided downlink radio transmission is a traffic transmission. On the other hand, downlink control signaling associated with the connection from the first cell to the radio user node is permitted. Also, in the preferred example embodiment, radio transmissions from the radio user node to the first cell in the uplink direction are permitted, and preferably maintained, while transmissions in the downlink direction originate from the second cell.

Increased radio communication capacity using transmit power balancing

First and second pools of resource units are configured using a structure having plural levels including first and second level resource units. A relationship is established between ones of the two pools of resource units. A request is made for a resource that requires a resource unit from both of the first and second resource unit pools. A single allocation procedure is employed to allocate resource units from both pools. If one of the resource units is available in one pool, the relationship ensures that a required corresponding resource unit in another pool is also available.

Method and apparatus for allocating processing resources

A pool of resource units is configured using a structure having plural levels including first level and second level resource blocks. Each first level resource block corresponds to an individual resource unit, where an individual resource unit is the smallest resource that can be allocated from the resource pool. The first level resource blocks are provided in groups. Each second level resource block corresponds to one of the groups of the first level resource blocks. The second level resource blocks are also provided in groups forming a next higher level of the resource pool. If a request is made for a first level resource block, an available first level resource block is allocated. If a first level resource block is not available, then an available first level resource block is created by converting a second level resource block into a corresponding group of first level resource blocks. One of the converted first level resource blocks is then allocated to the request. Resource blocks are restored to the resource unit pool structure first to any incomplete first level resource block grouping. If that returned block completes the grouping, a new second level resource block is made available. The resource pool may be reconfigured as needed to ensure an efficient configuration.
