A radio communication device including a housing and a flip that is rotatably connected to the housing by a hinge means. The housing contains electrical components on a printed circuit board. The flip contains electrical devices including an antenna and a microphone. A coupling is contained in the hinge means between the housing and the flip which electrically and mechanically couples the housing to the flip. The electrical components in the flip are connected to the printed circuit board through the coupling. The coupling includes a receptacle that is fixed relative to the housing and a header electrically and mechanically coupled to the receptacle. A bearing circumscribes the header and is able to rotate freely around the header. The bearing is held in place around the header by a bearing retainer. The bearing is fixedly attached to the flip and allows the flip to rotate around the coupling while the coupling remains fixed relative to the housing, allowing the coupling to act as an axle mechanism.

Electrical connector for a removable flip

An interconnection device for connecting a plurality of LCD contacts with a plurality of base circuit contacts. The interconnection device includes a non-conductive body having a U-shaped notch located for self-aligning engagement with a LCD driver chip. In addition, the non-conductive body includes at least one conductive lead. The conductive lead includes a first contact and a second contact that emerge from the non-conductive body. The contacts of the non-conductive body engage corresponding contacts of the LCD and base circuit board when the non-conductive body is engaged in alignment with the LCD driver chip.

An electromagnetic shield for a radiotelephone includes a frame and a shield insert that fits into the frame. The frame comprises a generally rectangular wall structure that forms a part of the housing for the radiotelephone. The shield insert is sized and shaped to fit into the frame and is retained in the frame by friction, interference fit, or snap features. A plurality of interchangeable shield inserts can be made to fit into a standard frame.

The cellular telephone of the present invention includes a generally sealed, moisture resistant electrical external connector that resides in the wall of the phone housing and provides a series of electrically conductive pathways which lead from the external surface of the housing, through the housing wall, to designated areas on an internally located printed circuit board. More particularly, these electrically conductive pathways or contacts, that essentially penetrate the cellular telephone housing, are incorporated within the housing wall via an insert molding, press fitting, or similar process such that a generally sealed, moisture resistant barrier is formed between the individual contacts which comprise the connector and the surrounding housing.

A mounting assembly is used to mount a liquid crystal display (LCD) to a printed circuit board. The mounting assembly includes a display support which is mounted to the printed circuit board and supports the display in spaced relationship to the printed circuit board. A connector with integral spring contacts snaps into an opening into the display support to electrically connect the contacts on the LCD to the contacts on the printed circuit board. The connector extends over a top surface of the LCD display and functions as a mechanical retention element.

Display assembly

Radiotelephones with electrically and acoustically shielded microphones which have a conductive elastomer grommet positioned intermediate of the housing and the printed circuit board is disclosed. The grommet is sized and configured to hold the microphone therein. The grommet provides a continuous shield along the receiving signal path defined by the length of the microphone, any associated signal connector, and the printed circuit board.

A locking fastener for an enclosure cover includes base and cover components. The base includes a pair of L-shaped flanges disposed on an internal surface of the base and a notch formed in the internal surface of the base. The cover includes a plate beam having ends that engage the L-shaped flanges of the base when the cover is assembled with the base. The plate beam also includes a tab that forcibly engages the notch in the in base when the cover is assembled with the base. The locking cover arrangement provides an economical and effective arrangement for permanently securing a cover over an opening.
