An orchestration layer for execution user defined automation workflows. The orchestration layer may include multiple process instances that host user defined automation workflows that automate processes or tasks. To improve system performance and reduce operating costs, the user defined automation workflows are deployed to the orchestration layer in a standard format that standardizes the user defined workflow configurations. The orchestration layer may also dynamically scale the computational resources allocated to teach process instance based on the properties of each user defined automation workflow.

A method, system, and computer program product for management of large multi-database installations. The method form commences by analyzing a multiple database installation to determine a set of candidate upgrade operations to apply to individual instances of heterogeneous databases in the multiple database installation, and then scheduling an order in which order to apply individual operations from among the set of candidate upgrade operations. In exemplary operation, the candidate upgrade operations comprise database version upgrades, database stack upgrades, and/or database listener upgrades. Some embodiments exploit homogeneity and/or groupings in order to parallelize performance of various upgrade operations during mass upgrade of multi-database installations. In addition to performing upgrade operations in the form of database version upgrades, database stack upgrades, and/or database listener upgrades, the installation can be upgraded by receiving application upgrades.

The workflow construction system may include a template library including workflow templates and pre-configured attributes. The workflow template can accelerate the design and construction of custom automation workflows. An orchestration layer included in the workflow construction system will also improve the performance of systems that execute the automation workflows by dynamically scaling the processing capacity, memory, and storage of servers and other systems hosting the model file instances of the automation workflows to ensure the available resources meet the demands of users completing processes using the automation workflows.

Techniques are described for managing updates across one or more targets using standard software images. In one embodiment, a first version of a software application is deployed on a set of one or more targets. A software binary is then generated for an updated version of the software application. The software binary for the updated version of the software application is deployed to the set of one or more targets. While the software binary for the updated version of the software application is deployed, the previous version of the software application remains active on a particular target. The updated version of the software application is activated, using the software binary, on the particular target.
