Techniques to manage presence information are described. An apparatus may comprise a presence management component operative to manage presence information for a presentity node. The presence management component may comprise a presence normalization module operative to retrieve presence temporal information for a home time zone, and normalize the presence temporal information for a local time zone of the presentity node to form normalized presence temporal information. The presence management component may further comprise a presence control module communicatively coupled to the presence normalization module. The presence control module may be operative to send presence state information from the presentity node to a presence server based on the normalized presence temporal information. Other embodiments are described and claimed.

Techniques to manage presence information

A method and system to provide ad-hoc push-to-talk calls between a plurality of users in a wireless packet data telecommunications network are described. The system may include: a wireless communication network including push-to-talk (PTT) functionality, with a Session Initiation Protocol (SIP) Proxy Server; a SIP Registrar and Location Server operable to store contact addresses of active mobile devices; a Realtime Transport Protocol (RTP) Media Gateway (PTT Server) operable to function as a call endpoint for each of a plurality of mobile devices wherein the plurality of mobile devices may be segmented into membership groups, the PTT Server further operable to multicast a communication from one member of the group to the other members of the group; and an Internet Protocol (IP) network interconnecting the SIP Proxy server, the SIP Registrar and Location Server, and the PTT Server.

Push-to-talk telecommunications system utilizing an voice-over-IP network

A method and system to provide push-to-talk from one user to another in a wireless packet data telecommunications network is described. Push-to-talk telecommunications system utilizing a voice-over-IP network

System and method for enabling push-to-talk (PTT) private calls in a wireless communications network are described. One embodiment includes selecting a called party private identification for a private call by a calling party on a mobile device; pressing a PTT button on the mobile device; transmitting a SIP SUBSCRIBE including the calling and called parties private identifications to request a speech token; redirecting the SIP SUBSCRIBE to the PTT Server for purposes of removing the calling party and the called party from a multicast group; receiving an acknowledge message that includes a speech token; transmitting calling party information from the PTT Server to the called party; communicating speech packets from the calling party to the called party in a half-duplex manner; releasing the PTT button on the mobile device; transmitting a SIP SUBSCRIBE to release the speech token; and notifying the calling and called parties that the group's speech token is available.

Push-to-talk wireless telecommunications system utilizing a voice-over-IP network

The present invention provides for an improved presence system, which can automatically and unobtrusively factor in the location of a person being monitored when creating presence information for dissemination to subscribers. Presence tags can be distributed at different locations, which may bear on the relative availability of the monitored person for communications. A mobile terminal associated with the monitored person is configured to automatically obtain tag information from the presence tags and deliver location-based state information to the presence server without human interaction. The presence server will process the location-based state information and any other applicable state information to create presence information for the person being monitored, and then deliver the presence information to subscribers.

Location-based presence automation

Multiple instances of an incoming call in an integrated system capable of communicating through multiple networks are associated such that the called party is provided a single (merged) notification along with options to select among available call types. The call is established using a selected network and end device registered to the called user. Association of the instances is accomplished by comparing caller identity derived from a variety of information associated with the calling party. Conversation or correlation IDs are used to associate the instances as being for the same call and with other related communications such as a related instant messaging session.

Merging call notifications in cross ringing systems

In one embodiment, a user paired controller communication device may pair with a user paired server communication device. The user paired controller communication device may direct the user paired server communication device to execute a first mode communication session of a multimodal conversation, such as a voice session. The user paired controller communication may execute a second mode communication session of the multimodal conversation, such as an instant messaging session.

Remote call control and conferencing using paired devices

Architecture for normalizing phone numbers and other types of connection information for facilitating mobile communications for users outside their local service areas. When a mobile user attempts to make a connection to a destination entity while outside the user's regular service area, the current location of the user is determined by the system. A normalization rule is selected that corresponds to a local service area associated with the current location. The phone number or other type of connection data string is normalized to the standards of the local service area. The normalized data string is used to automatically complete the connection to the destination entity. In this way, communication is facilitated and simplified for mobile users while traveling abroad.

Location-based address normalization

A first control node for use in a multimedia network includes a call control module to perform a call control task to enable establishment of a call session on behalf of a terminal in the multimedia network. The call control module further cooperates with a second control node to perform the call control task. A security element performs a security task with respect to messaging communicated for enabling establishment of the call session.

Providing security in a multimedia network

A first network element receives a message from a second network element. The message is modified by the first network element by inserting a certificate into the message, wherein the certificate includes an identity of the first network element and a digital signature produced by the first network element. The modified message is sent to a third network element.
