A combustor for a turbomachine engine. The combustor includes a combustion chamber, and a cowl having an annular shape that is symmetric around a centerline axis of the turbomachine engine. The cowl includes a hollow cavity that is in fluid communication with the combustion chamber. The hollow cavity is a damper that reduces combustion dynamics of the combustor.

A combustor having a main chamber and a trapped vortex cavity. The main chamber includes an outer liner and an inner liner. The trapped vortex cavity extends from at least one of the outer liner or the inner liner. A plurality of mixing assemblies operably injects a fuel-air mixture into the trapped vortex cavity to produce combustion gases. The trapped vortex cavity injects the combustion gases into the main chamber. A steam system is in fluid communication with the main chamber. The steam system operably injecting steam into the main chamber such that the steam flows downstream of the trapped vortex cavity.

A primary combustion chamber and a set of secondary combustors are fluidly coupled to the primary combustion chamber at the at least one opening.

A gas turbine engine includes a steam generating system, and a combustion section having a first combustor and a second combustor in fluid communication with a secondary combustion zone of the first combustor. The second combustor is operable to receive compressor bleed air and fuel, along with steam from the steam generating system. During a non-idle operating state and a power-augmentation operating state, when the steam system is operable, steam is provided to the second combustor and then to the secondary combustion zone of the first combustor. When the steam generating system is inoperable, the fuel and bleed air are provided to the second combustor and combusted, and combustion products are provided to the first combustor. When the steam generating system is partially operable, the steam, the bleed air, and the fuel are provided to the second combustor, and combustion products are provided to the first combustor.

A turbine engine includes a compressor section for providing a compressed air flow, a fuel system for providing a primary combustor fuel supply, and a secondary combustor fuel supply. A primary combustor, located downstream of the compressor section, combusts the compressed air flow and the primary combustor fuel supply to generate primary combustion products. A turbine section, located downstream of the primary combustor, includes a turbine and a secondary combustor that further combusts the primary combustion products and the fuel from the secondary combustor fuel supply. A steam system provides a steam supply to the secondary combustor. The secondary combustor further combusts the primary combustion products and the secondary combustor fuel supply to generate secondary combustion products, and the turbine section is rotated by the secondary combustor steam supply and the inter-turbine combustion products.

A turbine engine can utilize a combustor to combust fuel to drive the turbine, which drives the engine. A fuel nozzle assembly can supply fuel to the combustor for combustion or ignition of the fuel. The fuel nozzle assembly can include a swirler and a fuel nozzle to supply a mixture of fuel and air for combustion. Increasing efficiency and carbon-containing emission needs benefit from the use of alternative fuels, which combust at higher temperatures than traditional fuels, requiring improved fuel introduction without the occurrence of flame holding or flashback.

A combustor includes a combustion chamber and an annular dome. The combustion chamber includes an outer liner and an inner liner and has a combustion zone. The annular dome is coupled to the outer liner and the inner liner. A plurality of mixing assemblies operably injects a fuel-air mixture into the combustion zone of the combustion chamber to produce combustion gases. A combustor steam system is in fluid communication with the combustion chamber. The combustor steam system includes a steam path defined by at least one of the outer liner, the inner liner, or the annular dome. The combustor steam system operably directs steam through the steam path from the at least one of the outer liner, the inner liner, or the annular dome and into the combustion chamber.

A dome-deflector assembly for a combustor of a gas turbine includes a dome portion having a dome-side swirler opening therethrough, and a deflector portion having a deflector-side swirler opening therethrough. The dome portion and the deflector portion are connected together to form a dome-deflector cavity therebetween. The deflector portion includes a first-side surface and a second-side surface, the second-side surface being arranged within the dome-deflector cavity, and the second-side surface including a plurality of stress-relief contours arranged in a pattern about the deflector-side swirler opening.

A flare cone for a mixer assembly includes an annular conical wall extending circumferentially about a mixer assembly centerline, the annular conical wall including a conical inner surface defining a conical opening of the annular conical wall, and an annular axial wall extending in a longitudinal direction with respect to the mixer assembly centerline, the annular axial wall disposed at a radially outward portion of the annular conical wall and connected to the annular conical wall. The annular conical wall and the annular axial wall define an annular step circumferentially about the mixer assembly centerline and extending upstream in the longitudinal direction between a downstream end of the annular conical wall and an aft surface of the annular axial wall.

A combustor for a gas turbine includes a dome, and a deflector connected to the dome to define a baffle cavity therebetween, the deflector having a deflector cold side adjacent to the baffle cavity and a deflector hot side adjacent to a combustion chamber. At least one dome-deflector connecting member connects the dome and the deflector to each other. The dome-deflector connecting member forms a flexible joint between the dome and the deflector.

A dome structure for a combustor of a gas turbine includes a frame structure extending circumferentially about a combustor centerline axis, and a plurality of integrated dome-deflector plate members mounted to the frame structure. Each of the plurality of integrated dome-deflector plate members includes a dome wall, a deflector wall, and a plurality of side walls connecting the dome wall and the deflector wall to each other. A cavity is defined by the dome wall, the deflector wall, and the plurality of side walls.
