The present disclosure is directed to a system and method for micrositing a wind farm having a plurality of wind turbines. The method includes (a) determining, via a loads optimization function, one or more wind directions with or without turbine shadow for each of the wind turbines in the wind farm, (b) determining, via the loads optimization function, at least one additional wind parameter for each of the wind directions, (c) calculating, via simulation, loads for each of the wind turbines in the wind farm based on the identified wind directions with or without turbine shadow for each of the wind turbines in the wind farm and the at least one additional wind parameter for each of the wind directions, and (d) determining a site layout for the wind farm based on the calculated loads.

System and method for micrositing a wind farm for loads optimization

A method for determining wind turbine location within a wind power plant based on at least one design criteria. A wind turbine layout including at least one wind turbine location is prepared and site conditions at each wind turbine location are determined. One or more plant design metrics are evaluated in response to the site conditions. The plant design metrics are analyzed in response to the site conditions. The method further includes applying constraints to the wind turbine layout and comparing the plant design metrics to the design criteria and constraints. Thereafter, the wind turbine locations are selectively adjusted within the layout in response to the comparing step until a stop criteria is reached.

Method for wind turbine placement in a wind power plant

A wind turbine includes a generator and a control system. The control system is configured to determine whether a predefined amount of turbulence will be induced to the wind turbine by a wake zone created by a wind turbine upstream thereof. The control system is also configured to adjust at least one constraint of the wind turbine to a first setting if the amount of turbulence is greater than the predefined amount, the constraint affecting power produced by the generator, and to adjust the constraint of the wind turbine to a second setting if the amount of turbulence is not greater than the predefined amount.
