A system that improves wireless communication between a wireless base station and a plurality of remote wireless computing user devices (UEs) based on aiming downlink wireless signals from a base station in a beam shaped waveform in a determined direction for each remote UE that is identified as allocated a time period for communication with the base station according to a schedule. The system includes different types of components may be employed to implement various functions, including an angle of arrival (AoA) detector component, a downlink protocol decoder component, and an antenna controller component. The AoA detector component may be employed to monitor one or more radio frequency (RF) wireless signals radiated by UEs that are communicating with the base station in accordance with an allocation schedule.

Aimable beam antenna system

Filtering for sampled data representing uplink wireless RF signals monitored by a pair of antennas is provided to improve accuracy in determining an angular location of an identified UE. An extracted portion of the filtered sampled data is used to improve accuracy in determining an angular location of the identified UE. The extracted portion represents direct path uplink wireless RF signals that have traveled by a line of sight between the pair of antennas and the identified UE. Another portion of the filtered sampled data is cancelled, which represents multiple path (multipath) uplink wireless RF signals that have traveled a longer distance than the direct path signals due to reflection from one or more surfaces on multiple paths between the identified UE and the pair of antennas.

Multipath filtering for wireless RF signals

One or more access points in a wireless communication system, wherein at least one of those access points includes a set of more than one antennae capable of concurrent communication, and at least one of those more than one antennae is isolated from a remainder of that set of antennae during concurrent communication. Isolation includes one or more of disposed a first antenna in a null region of a second antenna, disposing a first antenna to communicate polarized and substantially orthogonal to a second antenna, disposing a set of antennae to communicate at two or more carrier frequencies, wherein each first antenna adjacent to a second antenna operate at distinct such carrier frequencies, or disposing a set of antennae to communicate using two or more substantially distinct protocols, wherein substantially each first antenna adjacent to a second antenna operate at substantially distinct such protocols.

Wireless communication antennae for concurrent communication in an access point

A stabilized ultra-high bandwidth capacity transceiver system that combines an E-band (71-76 GHz, 81-86 GHz) millimeter wave RF transceiver with an eye-safe adaptive optics Free Space Optical (FSO) transceiver as a combined apparatus for simultaneous point-to-point commercial communications. The apparatus has a high degree of assured carrier availability under stressing environmental conditions. The apparatus establishes and maintains pointing and stabilization of mmW RF and FSO optical beams between adjacent line of sight apparatuses. The apparatus can rapidly acquire and reacquire the FSO optical carrier link in the event the optical carrier link is impaired due to adverse weather.

Integrated commercial communications network using radio frequency and free space optical data communication

A mechanism for retrieval of carrier frequency and carrier phase in a received modulated carrier waveform. Retrieval of carrier frequency and carrier phase can be implemented in an analog electrical circuit, using a field programmable gate array (FPGA), or in computer code. Independent of the implementation, the mechanism performs frequency and primary phase recovery by forcing transforms of a pilot tone in the upper and lower sidebands to the same frequency using a feedback loop. The difference-in-magnitudes of the channelized pilot are used by a phase lock loop to perform secondary phase recovery in a manner that also resolves phase sign ambiguity. Benefits of this mechanism include improved phase lock loop tracking performance and a reduction of noise in the data demodulated from the received carrier waveform.

Carrier frequency and phase recovery in quadrature encoded E-band communications

An access point housing structure includes a first enclosure, a second enclosure to house an array of antenna patches, and an omni-directional hinge component. The first enclosure includes a first coupling mechanism located near one of the corners of the first enclosure. The second enclosure includes a second coupling mechanism located near a corner corresponding to the location of the first coupling mechanism. The omni-directional hinge component connects to the first coupling mechanism and to the second coupling mechanism and allows rotation of the second enclosure about a first axis along an edge of the first enclosure adjacent to the first coupling mechanism and about a second axis along an edge of the second enclosure adjacent to the second coupling mechanism.

If the access point is operating using power over Ethernet, it adjusts the operation of its radios, gracefully degrading those radios from (first) both radios operating in 3&#xd7;3 mode, to (second) a first radio operating in 3&#xd7;3 mode and a second radio operating in 2&#xd7;2 mode, to (third) both radios operating in 2&#xd7;2 mode. The power adaptation circuit may also throttle clock speeds in the system (processor or peripherals), or shut down or idle various peripherals to lower power consumption for the duration consumption is high.

Controlling multiple-radio wireless communication access points when using power over Ethernet

A method for allocating resources of a shared medium in a large distributed network. The nodes make reservation requests in parallel during a series of reservation time slots. For each slot, one node of a pair transmits a request and the other listens. A node transmits its own requests and the requests of nodes from the request it received. The process repeats until all nodes have transmitted their requests for medium access, wherein one node knows the medium access requests of all the nodes in the network. In this fashion, 1024 nodes can make their requests in ten time slots. The last node may be a master node or may transmit to a master node or base station, which transmits a full or partial grant. Alternatively, the nodes may simultaneously transmit their requests to a master node, which passes the groups requests to a master node nearer the base station.
