Provided herein are polycarbonate blend compositions, methods for making polycarbonate blend compositions and articles containing the polycarbonate blend composition, wherein the polycarbonate blend composition comprises a first polycarbonate and a second polycarbonate wherein the polycarbonate blend has a glass transition temperature (Tg) between 148&#xb0; C. and 155&#xb0; C. as measured using a differential scanning calorimetry method; a percent (%) haze of less than 3.5% and a % transmission of greater than 80% as measured using a method of ASTM D 1003-07, and wherein the blend composition possesses 80% or greater ductility in a notched izod test at &#x2212;20&#xb0; C. at a thickness of 0.125 inches according to ASTM D256-10.

Heat resistant clear polycarbonate-polysiloxane compounds

A thermoplastic polymer composition comprises a cyanophenyl endcapped polycarbonate, a potassium diphenyl sulphon-3-sulphonate; and brominated polycarbonate. In some embodiments, when the thermoplastic polymer composition is in the form of a 3 mm thick extruded sheet, the sheet has a smoke density of less than 200 at an exposure period of 240 seconds in accordance with the smoke density test as set forth in ASTM E662-06, and has no burning drips on the sheet for a duration of 10 minutes in accordance with the flammability test as set forth in NF-P-92-505.

Flame retardant thermoplastic polymer composition, method of manufacture, and articles formed therefrom

A thermoplastic polycarbonate composition includes, based on the total weight of the thermoplastic polycarbonate composition: 15 to less than 40 wt. % of a reinforcing mineral filler; and greater than 60 to 85 wt. % of a polymer component, including, based on the weight of the polymer component, 68 to 99.9 wt. % of an aromatic polycarbonate, 0.1 to 2 wt. % of a fluorinated polymer, optionally, 0.1 to 25 wt. % of an impact modifier; and optionally, 0.1 to 5 wt. % of an additive composition including an antioxidant, a mold release agent, and a stabilizer; wherein a molded sample of the thermoplastic polycarbonate composition has no drips when measured in accordance with NF P 92-505 at a thickness of 3.0 mm.

Flame retardant polycarbonate compositions, method of manufacture thereof, and articles therefrom

A flame retardant thermoplastic composition comprising in combination a polycarbonate homopolymer or copolymer comprising repeat carbonate units having the following structure: wherein Rand Rare independently at each occurrence a C-Calkyl, n and p are each an integer having a value of 1 to 4, and T is selected from the group consisting of C-Ccycloalkanes attached to the aryl groups at one or two carbons, C-Calkyl groups, C-Caryl groups, and C-Caryl alkyl groups; an impact modifier, wherein the impact modifier comprises wherein the impact modifier comprises a rubber modified thermoplastic resin comprising a discontinuous elastomeric phase dispersed in a rigid thermoplastic phase, and wherein the impact modifier has a specific mean particle size and Q value; and a flame retardant. The compositions have excellent scratch resistance as well as an improved balance of physical properties such as impact strength and spiral flow, while at the same time maintaining their good flame performance.

Flame retardant and scratch resistant thermoplastic polycarbonate compositions

A flame retardant thermoplastic composition having excellent physical properties that includes 20 to 90 wt. % of a polycarbonate resin; from 1 to 35 wt. % of an impact modifier; from 0.5 to 30 wt. % of a polysiloxane-polycarbonate copolymer including from 8 to 30 wt. % polydimethylsiloxane units or the equivalent molar amount of other diorganosiloxane units; from 0.5 to 20 wt. % of a phosphorus-containing flame retardant, and from 3 to 30 wt. % of metal fiber, each based on the total combined weight of the thermoplastic composition, exclusive of any filler. In one embodiment, a molded sample of the thermoplastic composition having a thickness of 3.0 mm (&#xb1;10%) has an EMI shielding of at least 20 dB. In addition, a molded sample of the thermoplastic composition is capable of achieving UL94 V0 or V1 rating at a thickness of 1.5 mm (&#xb1;10%). The compositions are useful in forming flame retardant articles having EMI shielding characteristics.

A thermoplastic composition contains about 20 to about 90 wt. % of a polycarbonate resin; up to about 35 wt. % of an impact modifier; about 0.5 to about 30 wt. % of a polysiloxane-polycarbonate copolymer; and about 0.5 to about 20 wt. % of a phosphorus-containing flame retardant, each based on the total combined weight of the thermoplastic composition, exclusive of any filler. An article of manufacture having a wall having a thickness of 3 mm or less may be made using the composition, e.g., by molding, extruding, or shaping the above-described composition into an article. Alternatively, an article may be made by ultrasonically welding a first part comprising the foregoing composition a second part.

Flame retardant thermoplastic polycarbonate compositions, use and method thereof

A thermoplastic composition comprises a polycarbonate having repeating structural carbonate units of the formula (1): wherein at least 60 percent of the total number of Rgroups contain aromatic organic groups and the balance thereof are aliphatic, alicyclic, or aromatic groups; and wherein the polycarbonate comprises terminal groups derived from reaction with a cyanophenol of the formula wherein Y is a halogen, Calkyl group, Calkoxy group, Carylalkyl, Calkylaryl, or nitro group, y is 0 to 4, and c is 1 to 5, provided that y+c is 1 to 5; optionally a branching agent; an impact modifier; and a flame retardant. The compositions are useful in the manufacture of a wide variety of parts, particularly those having a thin wall.

Thermoplastic compositions, methods of making, and articles formed therefrom

A laminate contains a first layer and a second layer. The first layer contains a first composition that contains polycarbonate, polycarbonate-polysiloxane copolymer, impact modifier and polyetherimide, wherein the polycarbonate constitutes at least about 50% by weight of the composition and a 3.2 millimeter thick, 7.6 centimeter square sample of the first composition produces a smoke density (Ds) of less than 275 after a 4-minute burn, measured according to ASTM E 662-03. The first composition may contain about 50 wt. % to about 97 wt. % polycarbonate, about 0.5 wt. % to about 25 wt. % polycarbonate-polysiloxane copolymer, about 0.5 wt. % to about 20 wt. % impact modifier, and about 2 wt. % to about 15 wt. % polyetherimide, by weight. An article may contain a sheet or film made from such a composition. A laminate or article may be made to include a first layer or sheet that includes such a composition.
