This disclosure provides methods, components, devices and systems for optimized RACH procedures in NTNs including NB-IoT. A UE performs in an NTN one or more of a first or second procedure in an idle mode, or a third procedure in a connected mode. In the first procedure, the UE considers a number of RAPIDs in msg2, and if the number meets a threshold, the UE applies a backoff to delay sending msg1. In the second procedure, if the UE fails to decode msg2 or msg4 after transmitting msg1, the UE applies a backoff before performing subsequent RACH. In the third procedure, following a failure to receive an uplink grant when monitoring a USS and after transmitting msg1 for a SR, the UE continues monitoring the USS for the grant until the start of a RAR window. If the uplink grant is received during this time, the UE cancels msg2 monitoring.

RACH optimization for NB-IoT NTN GSO

Methods, systems, and devices for wireless communications are described. Aspects of the present disclosure describe a quick scanning method to reject global synchronization channel numbers (GSCNs) that do not include a synchronization signal block (SSB). The quick scanning method utilizes down-sampling techniques to reduce complexity associated with scanning many GSCNs for an SSB. For example, a user equipment (UE) may down-sample a signal to obtain a coarse signal subset (e.g., by using coarse bin sizes, sampling a portion of symbols). The UE may perform a fast Fourier Transform, along with one or more data processing techniques, to obtain a spectrogram corresponding to the signal. While the spectrogram may represent the signal in the frequency domain with reduced resolution, and may include energy information corresponding to different frequencies. The UE may utilize the spectrogram to examine frequencies corresponding to GSCNs to detect if an SSB is present.

Techniques to perform energy scans in new radio

Methods, systems, and devices for wireless communications are described. In some systems, a device, such as an internet of things (IoT) device, may include a configuration or software (e.g., in baseband) that is common for multiple applications of the device. In some aspects, the device may select a setting for at least some if not each of a set of parameters associated with or defining a device profile of the device based on an application of the device. The device may perform a mapping procedure to map the settings for the parameters associated with the device profile to one or more baseband configurations or baseband handles and the device may customize the baseband of the device using the one or more baseband configurations. As such, the device may operate or communicate using the baseband that is customized based on the device profile and application of the device.

The UE may process individual ones of the one or more over-the-air signals. The UE may evaluate, in corresponding batches for each of the individual ones of the one or more over-the-air signals, each of the corresponding pluralities of channels for cell acquisition. The UE may acquire a cell via batch-wise evaluation of the corresponding pluralities of channels.

Optimized page reception based on target page miss rate for IoT devices

Methods, systems, and devices for wireless communications are described that provide for measurements for narrow-band (NB) Internet of Things (IoT) devices. A user equipment (UE) may receive a cell-specific reference signal (CRS) during a paging occasion and via a non-anchor carrier. The UE may process the CRS by determining and/or making quality measurements of the paging carrier. The quality measurements may be used to determine whether a paging occasion should be terminated early to conserve UE power and to prevent an extended 'on' duration during the discontinuous receive cycle of the UE. In some examples, the UE may combine statistics and/or measurements based on processing of both the CRS and a narrow-band reference signal (NRS).

Measurements for narrow-band internet of things devices

Aspects of the disclosure relate to a user equipment (UE) for wireless communication. The UE wakes to monitor for a wakeup signal (WUS) having a maximum WUS duration and configured to indicate an upcoming transmission of a paging signal corresponding to the WUS. The UE detects a reference signal tone energy from tones carrying reference signals, detects a WUS tone energy from tones designated for carrying the WUS, and determines whether the WUS is present or absent based on the WUS tone energy and the reference signal tone energy. The UE then transitions to a sleep state prior to an end of the maximum WUS duration when the WUS is determined to be absent. Alternatively, the UE remains awake when the WUS is determined to be present and receives the paging signal corresponding to the WUS. Various aspects of the present disclosure generally relate to wireless communication. In some aspects, a user equipment (UE) may signal, to a base station, a capability of the UE relating to carrier aggregation for a particular category or class of the UE, such as for narrowband Internet of Things (NB-IoT) UEs. The UE may receive, from the base station, a configuration for carrier aggregation for the particular category or class of the UE based at least in part on the capability of the UE relating to carrier aggregation for the particular category or class of the UE. There is a need to support HARQ retransmission for narrow-band communications. The present disclosure provides a solution by supporting a HARQ retransmission timer for narrow-band communications. In an aspect of the disclosure, a method, a computer-readable medium, and an apparatus are provided. The method for wireless communication at a user equipment may include receiving, by a user equipment (UE), a hybrid automatic repeat request (HARQ) retransmission timer, the HARQ retransmission timer indicates a time interval, identifying, by the (UE), data for uplink transmission, and starting, by the UE and after expiration of the HARQ retransmission timer, a random access procedure to obtain an uplink grant for the data.

In an aspect of the disclosure, a method, a computer-readable medium, and an apparatus are provided. The apparatus may be a narrowband Internet of thing (NB-IoT) user equipment (UE). Further, the apparatus may be configured to receive NB reference signals (NRS) on a NB channel during a gap between reception events, perform link quality measurements based on the NRS received during an evaluation time interval, the evaluation time interval being shorter than the gap between the reception events, determine whether a link quality is greater than or equal to a first threshold, during the evaluation time interval, based on the link quality measurements, and determine whether to enable an autonomous reception (RX) sleep mode for a remaining duration of the gap between the reception events based at least in part on determining whether the link quality is greater than or equal to the first threshold value.

The UE may determine, based at least in part on the configuration information, a number of subframes available within a random access response (RAR) time window for downlink control channel communications. The UE may modify a random access procedure based on the determined number of subframes available within the RAR time window for the downlink control channel communications. In one example, modifying the random access procedure may include skipping a decoding attempt using a decoding hypothesis. In another example, modifying the random access procedure may include aborting the random access procedure.
