A method includes determining a routing graph based on a map, wherein the routing graph represents locations from the map; determining a routing horizon based on the routing graph, wherein the routing horizon defines a portion of the routing graph that is usable for routing; determining a cost-action structure that includes, for each location of the routing horizon, a cost-to-go value for travel from a respective location from the routing horizon to a destination, wherein the cost-to-go values implicitly describe an optimal route for travel from each of the respective locations from the routing horizon to the destination; receiving, from an autonomous agent, a request that specifies one of the locations from the routing horizon; and providing, to the autonomous agent, information from the cost-action structure based on the specified location from the routing horizon.

Route guidance system

Some embodiments provide a mobile computing device that includes a number of applications having a common display area to display data relating to a location. In some embodiments, the common display area is a unified display area to display different types of data. The different types of data can include information regarding the location, multimedia associated with the location, user feedback regarding the location, a catalog associated with the location, social network data, etc. In some embodiments, the unified common display area is also referred to as a place card because it presents data relating to a place.

A method includes performing multiple steps of a route planning procedure based on starting and ending locations. Each of multiple steps of the route planning procedure includes maintaining information that identifies candidate routes by which graph elements can be reached or occupied during a current step, updating an accumulated cost for each of the candidate routes, updating an accumulated benefit for each of the candidate routes, determining a minimum return cost to the ending location for each candidate route, and eliminating candidate routes that cannot reach the ending location within a cost budget. A highest-benefit route from the candidate routes is selected.

Some embodiments provide a graphical user interface (GUI) that includes a map with selectable indications pertaining to a location within the map. In response to detecting selection of the selectable indication, a place card providing particular information pertaining to the location is rendered in the GUI.
