A processor determines that a UE operates in a DRX cycle including a DRX-on duration followed by a DRX-sleep duration. The processor configures a plurality of periodic uplink CG occasions within the DRX cycle. Each uplink CG occasion supports uplink transmission of a predefined size. The processor reads a data buffer to determine a size of accumulated data. At a given uplink CG occasion, the processor compares the size of accumulated data with an upper threshold data size and a lower threshold data size. Responsive to a first comparison result, the processor transmits the accumulated data over one or more uplink CG occasions starting from the given uplink CG occasion. Responsive to a second comparison result, the processor transmits a BSR at the given uplink CG occasion. Responsive to a third comparison result, the processor transmits neither the accumulated data nor the BSR at the given uplink CG occasion.

Processor and user equipment for reducing power consumption during DRX

A base station may operate in a context where the propagation delay between the base station and user equipment (UE) devices is large. The base station configures UE devices with a common delay. The base station receives a random access preamble from a UE device. The base station determines a time slot in which the random access preamble was transmitted, based on a configured correspondence between allowable time slots and subsets of an available set of preambles. The base station computes a Random Access Radio Network Temporary Identifier (RA-RNTI) based on parameter values including an index, of the determined time slot. The base station employs the computed RA-RNTI to address a random access response for the UE device.

This may be based on one or more factors or conditions, such as whether the UE is currently using 4th generation (4G) RAT or 5th generation (5G) RAT, whether the UE is in an active mode or idle mode, a BWP used by the UE, whether an application or network service requires a certain throughput, a type of application being used by the UE, an amount of network congestion, and so on. RAT optimization may also be based on whether the UE is using a frequency range 1 (FR1) or frequency range 2 (FR2), whether the UE is stationary or moving, whether the UE is experiencing beam failures, uplink (UL) switches, link quality measurements (LQMs), reference signal received power (RSRP) measurements, and so on.

A method for managing a QoE for a UE in a communications network is provided. The method includes determining, based at least on data received in a communications session, one or more parameters affecting the QoE. The method includes determining weights corresponding to the one or more parameters. The method includes computing an expected QoE for the UE based on the determined weights corresponding to the one or more parameters. The method includes determining that the expected QoE satisfies a threshold. The method includes transmitting, to one or more network nodes in the communications network, the determined weights corresponding to the one or more parameters. The method also includes adjusting the communications session at the UE.

Managing quality of experience in communications networks

This disclosure relates to techniques for reducing latency in a high-propagation-delay wireless communication system. A user equipment device (UE) may transmit to abase station (BS) a first buffer status report (BSR) indicating an amount of uplink data buffered by the UE for transmission to the BS, and may subsequently transmit to the BS a first BSR update message indicating that an additional amount of uplink data has been buffered by the UE subsequent to transmission of the first BSR. The first BSR update message may be transmitted prior to expiration of a timer authorizing transmission of a second BSR following the first BSR. The UE may receive from the BS an uplink grant allocating resources for transmission of at least a portion of the uplink data buffered by the UE. The uplink grant may have a size based on the first BSR and the first BSR update message.

User equipment (UE) supplemental BSR for reduced latency in high-propagation-delay networks

A user equipment (UE) device may perform random access to a base station in the context where propagation delay between the base station and the UE device is large. The UE device randomly selects a random access preamble from an available set of preambles. The UE device selects a time slot for transmission of the random access preamble based on a configured correspondence between allowable time slots and subsets of the available set. The UE device transmits the random access preamble to a base station in the selected time slot, with timing advance to compensate for a common delay. Thus, the base station, knowing the configured correspondence, is able to determine the time slot in which the random access preamble was transmitted. The UE device receives a random access response that has been addressed with a Random Access Radio Network Temporary Identifier (RA-RNTI).

A device may obtain, through wireless signaling from a network, a time-domain wireless-resource allocation (TWRA) pattern allocated to the device by the network and corresponding to a future time interval (TTI) for which the device has not yet decoded corresponding control information. A base station may receive from user equipment device (UE) a random access initiation message, having a characteristic that is configured to indicate to the base station a requested size of a subsequent uplink grant to be provided by the base station for transmission of uplink data by the UE. For example, the characteristic may include a predetermined preamble included in the random access initiation message, such that a requested grant size is indicated by which preamble the UE selects from a plurality of possible preambles. As another example, the characteristic may include which RACH occasion is selected by the UE to transmit the random access initiation message. In response, the base station may allocate resources for use by the UE based on the characteristic.

This disclosure relates to techniques for reducing latency in a high-propagation-delay wireless communication system. A base station (BS) may receive from a user equipment (UE) a first buffer status report (BSR) indicating an amount of uplink data buffered by the UE for transmission to the BS, and may subsequently receive a first BSR update message indicating that an additional amount of uplink data has been buffered by the UE subsequent to transmission of the first BSR.
