An implantable device for monitoring physiological changes in a patient is provided. The device can include a vessel adapted to being implanted within a patient's body; a chamber having a cell layer and capable of being secured to the vessel; a light source for shining light onto the cell layer; and a reader for detecting and/or decoding signals from the cell layer to monitor physiological changes in the patient. The device is capable of engaging in a two-way communication with a second device through transmission of one or more electromagnetic signals through at least a portion of the patient's body.

Implantable devices and methods of use

A wearable device for monitoring physiological changes in a patient is provided. The device can include a housing adapted to being secured to a patient's body, the housing comprising a needle configured for fluid contact with a bodily fluid under a skin surface; a chamber having a cell layer and configured to monitor physiological changes in the bodily fluid and to generate one or more signals associated with the physiological changes; and a reader for detecting and/or decoding signals from the cell layer to monitor physiological changes in the patient. The device is capable of engaging in a two-way communication with a second device through transmission of one or more signals.

Wearable devices for monitoring physiological changes and methods of use

An implantable apparatus for physiological measurement in a host organism has an implantable sample chamber having a measurement port and live cells that are treated to fluoresce in response to light having an excitation wavelength. An optical sensor housing implanted within the host organism has a window to convey excitation light output and receive fluorescent light; a coupling that couples the measurement port of the sample chamber to the window; an optical chamber partitioned into an excitation sub-chamber and a detection sub-chamber, wherein both sub-chambers are in optical communication with the window; an excitation source energizable to direct excitation light through the excitation sub-chamber and to the window; and a detector in the path of fluorescent light received from the live cells. A signal processing apparatus is energizable to acquire and process a detector signal and to transmit a processed signal that is indicative of fluorescent light energy.

Implantable apparatus for sensing biologic signals

An intra-body communication system for monitoring physiological changes in a patient is provided. The system can include a first device implanted into a patient's body; a second device spaced apart from the first device; and a receiver for detecting and/or decoding the signals to monitor physiological changes in the patient. The first device and second device are capable of engaging in a two-way communication through transmission of one or more signals through at least a portion of the patient's body between the first device and the second device. In one embodiment, the signal may be an optical signal.

A leadless intravascular sensor () uses the body tissue as a communication medium. The implantable intravascular device has a tubular stent-like structure () for intravascular fixation with embedded microcircuits to allow bipolar and unipolar sensing of cardiac and neurologic electrical activity, sensing of other physiologic signals, local electrical stimulation (cardiac pacing and defibrillation; neurologic stimulation and seizure therapy) as well as the ability to communicate with other implanted and non implanted devices via radio frequency and/or optical communication and/or analog signal communication using body tissue as the conducting medium. The device can also be used in the extravascular or perivascular space. In this form, it has an open/flexible ring that can be adjusted, or self-adjusts to provide no pressure or required contact around the vessel or target region.

In certain embodiments, the support apparatus can generate signals and/or translate signals received for processing and/or relaying to another device or module (e.g., another support apparatus). A plurality of biological chip devices and associated support apparatuses can be supported and linked in a network to perform various desired functions.
