A composite riser for an archery bow formed from fibers embedded in resin in such a way that resin rich areas, dry fibers and voids are eliminated, providing consistent risers of high quality. The location of structural fibers, such as a carbon fibers or fiberglass composite materials, is ensured within a mold used to form the riser and relative to the resin which bonds the fibers together. Various processes may be used to form the riser with control of the fibers and resin maintained. For example, structural reaction injection molding, liquid composite molding, continuous fiber molding, modified compression molding, resin transfer molding and variable infusion molding processes can be used.

Method of making a composite riser

A cam for an archery bow is constructed comprising a body for guided entrainment of a bow string. The body accommodates an axle for mounting the body to the bow for rotation about an axis of the axle. At least one adjuster is carried by the body for adjustment between at least two positions. The adjuster is arranged in a first position to define a first draw weight and draw length of the bow, and in a second position to define a second draw weight of the bow. At least one of the draw weights and draw lengths are different, so that moving the adjuster from its first position to its second position changes either the draw weight, draw length, or both.

Archery bow and cam arrangement

An archery bow has a cable guard with at least one guide pulley rotatably carried by the cable guard to receive at least one harness string portion and maintain the harness string portion out of a user's way while using the bow. The archery bow has a body or riser with a handle portion and a pair of limbs each having a free end spaced from the handle portion. A separate pulley is rotatably carried adjacent the free ends of each limb and at least one string is trained around the pulleys and has a draw string portion and at least one harness string portion. The harness string portion is trained around at least a portion of a guide pulley, and if more than one harness string portion is provided, then each harness string portion may be trained around a separate guide pulley to maintain the harness string portions separate from each other and to maintain each harness string portion in a laterally spaced relation from the drawstring portion.

An archery bow has a pair of limbs with at least one of the limbs having a split section defining a pair of limb sections generally separate from each other. A connecting member is received within the split section to connect the limb sections to each other between a point of string attachment and a handle portion of the bow. The connecting member limits relative movement between the limb sections.

Composite riser

An archery bow has at least one dampener to reduce noise and vibration of the bow in use. Desirably, at least one dampener, and preferably a plurality of individual dampeners may be disposed in the area of the connection of a limb to a riser or handle portion of the bow to reduce vibrations transferred to the riser by the limb. Additionally, the archery bow preferably has a cam adapted to receive a dampener to reduce the noise and vibration passing between the cam and the limb. Any number of dampeners may be used in combination, or the dampeners may be used separately as desired.

Archery bow vibration dampening system

A compound bow having a pair of cam modules or secondary cams with at least one cam module having a draw stop integral therewith to engage a harness string of the compound bow at the optimum draw length of the bowstring to prevent this optimum draw length from being exceeded and to efficiently and repeatably store the same quantity of energy in the compound bow. The integral draw stop decreases vibration of the bow in use and cannot be moved to thereby insure that the optimum draw length can be readily achieved throughout the life of the bow. A floor or post is also preferably provided on each cam module to firmly hold and retain one end of a harness string. A track formed in the cam module, which increasingly receives the harness string as a bowstring is drawn, preferably has an inside surface adjacent to a primary cam substantially perpendicular to its axis of rotation and an inclined outside surface spaced from the primary cam providing a track having a width at its outer edge greater than the diameter or width of the harness string to more smoothly receive the harness string within the track to reduce friction between them and thereby reduce string wear and provide an extremely smooth draw of the bowstring.

Compound bow cams and modules

A method of producing a set of archery bow risers having a variety of shapes is taught in which a workpiece is designed having a shape that encompasses each one of the variety of shapes. A set of dies is produced for producing the workpiece and the dies are used to form a set of workpieces via forging, die-casting or composite resin/fiber molding. Finally, a set of bows having mutually different shapes are machined from the workpieces. The method taught avoids the expense of producing a new set of dies for each new archery bow riser design.

Method for production of archery bow risers of various shapes

A limb construction for a compound archery bow includes a handle riser and a bow limb attached to the handle riser. The bow limb comprises a pair of independent and separate resilient limb members projecting from the handle riser. The limb members are spaced apart from each other and each have a tip portion opposite the handle riser. A pulley is attached to the bow limb between respective tip portions of the limb members. The handle riser includes a limb mounting bracket. The limb mounting bracket has at least two recesses and at least two mounting pins. Each mounting pin has a projection. The projections are matingly engageable with the recesses, and each mounting pin is also engaged with a respective limb member. The recesses may be cup-shaped and the projections may be dome shaped. A rocking plate is mounted between the projections and the limb members. A shim is between the limb mounting bracket and the bow limb.
