The present invention provides multifunctional amphiphilic copolymers having the structure set out below: wherein w, x, y, and z are molar percentages, the sum of which equals 100%; wherein Rhas the formula &#x2014;(CHCHO)&#x2014;R, where Ris hydrogen or a C-Calkyl group; Rhas the formula &#x2014;(CH)&#x2014;CH; Ris hydrogen or methyl; Rhas the formula &#x2014;(OCHCH)&#x2014;O&#x2014;(CH)&#x2014;CHor &#x2014;(OCHCH)&#x2014;O&#x2014;CH; and n is an integer ranging from 1 to about 10, a is an integer ranging from 1 to about 21, b is an integer ranging from 1 to about 23, and c is an integer ranging from 1 to about 21. The present invention also provides compositions comprising the multifunctional amphiphilic copolymers including spray drift control compositions including agricultural compositions, consumer compositions, industrial compositions, and mining compositions. The present invention also provides methods for preparing and using the multifunctional amphiphilic copolymers.

Functionally versatile amphiphilic copolymers

Optical imaging systems and methods are disclosed herein for investigating and analyzing one or more characteristics of a spray, including spray front velocity, spray sheet length, spray break-up dynamics, drift potential, and drop-size distribution. Optical imaging systems disclosed herein include an image acquisition device, one or more illumination source, a processor for processing and analyzing image data, a background, and a spray system that includes at least a nozzle. The image acquisition device and illumination sources are positioned on the same side of the spray. The processor has a first algorithm to generate a feedback correction factor and a second algorithm to identify droplets and develop a drop-size distribution for the spray. Optical imaging methods for determining spray characteristics are also disclosed and generally include the steps of providing an imaging system, capturing images of the spray with the imaging system, processing the images, and analyzing the images.

Spray characterization by optical image analysis

The present invention provides coating compositions for forming a toner coating on a substrate containing a polymer comprising: (a) a N-vinyl amide monomer, (b) a vinyl acetate monomer, and (c) a solvent. The coating compositions may further comprise an additional hydrophobic monomer moiety. The present invention further provides coating compositions for forming a toner coating on a substrate containing a polymer comprising: (a) a N-vinyl amide monomer, (b) a styrene monomer, and (c) a solvent. The present invention further provides toner substrates coated with the coating compositions.

Coating compositions for forming toner coatings

The invention provides lactamic polymers comprising an acetoacetate moiety. The lactamic polymers may be readily functionalized and the functionalized lactamic polymers may be further derivatized to provide a wide variety of useful polymers having desirable chemical and physical properties. The lactamic polymers of the invention may be employed in a wide variety of compositions. (A); (B) wherein R-R, w, x, y, z, and n are described herein.

This invention provides hydrophobic compositions for forming hydrophobic toner receptive coatings on a substrate. The hydrophobic coating compositions for forming toner receptive coatings on a substrate contain a hydrophobic polymer comprising: (a) a N-vinyl amide monomer, (b) a non-reactive hydrophobic monomer moiety, and (c) a solvent. The coating compositions may further comprise (d) a substituted or unsubstituted monomer comprising a cyclic ether or an acetoacetate, or mixtures thereof. The invention also provides compositions suitable for addition to toner to enhance adhesion and toner substrates coated with the hydrophobic coating compositions. The hydrophobic polymer may be represented by the following structure, wherein x, y, z, and a, are defined herein. 

Hydrophobic coating compositions for forming toner receptive coatings

This invention provides hydrophobic compositions for forming hydrophobic toner receptive coatings on a substrate. The hydrophobic coating compositions for forming toner receptive coatings on a substrate contain a hydrophobic polymer comprising: (a) a maleic anhydride monomer, (b) a non-reactive hydrophobic monomer moiety, and (c) a solvent. The coating compositions may further comprise (d) a substituted or unsubstituted monomer comprising a cyclic ether or an acetoacetate, or mixtures thereof. The invention also provides compositions suitable for addition to toner to enhance adhesion and toner substrates coated with the hydrophobic coating compositions. A representative hydrophobic polymer structure is set out below, wherein x, y, and z are defined herein. 

The present invention provides coating composition for forming a toner receptive coating on a substrate containing a polymer comprising: (a) a N-vinyl amide monomer, (b) a vinyl acetate monomer, (c) a substituted or unsubstituted monomer comprising a cyclic ether, and (d) a solvent. The coating compositions may further comprise a (e) non-reactive hydrophobic monomer. The invention also provides substrates coated with the toner receptive coatings.
