The present invention is generally related to various types of compositions that comprise a polyindane resin. In particular, the polyindane resins may be utilized in various polymer-based and elastomer-based formulations in order to enhance several properties and characteristics of those formulations. More specifically, elastomeric compositions are provided that comprise at least one polyindane resin, which may be used to replace or enhance the functionality of existing hydrocarbon resins used in elastomeric formulations. The elastomeric compositions may be used to produce various tire components.

Tires comprising polyindane resins and uses thereof

The present invention is generally related to various types of compositions that comprise a polyindane resin. In particular, the polyindane resins may be utilized in various polymer-based and elastomer-based formulations in order to enhance several properties and characteristics of those formulations. More specifically, adhesive formulations are provided that comprise at least one polyindane resin, which may be used to replace or enhance the functionality of existing hydrocarbon resins typically used in adhesive formulations. Compositions comprising at least one thermoplastic elastomer and at least one polyindane resin are also provided.

Adhesives comprising polyindane resins

An elastomeric composition is provided comprising at least one elastomer, at least one cellulose ester additive, at least one methylene acceptor, at least one methylene donor, and optionally, at least one filler; wherein the cellulose ester additive comprises at least one cellulose ester. The cellulose ester additive can also comprise at least one compatibilizer and/or plasticizer.

A process for producing elastomeric composition is provided comprising mixing at least one elastomer, at least one cellulose ester additive, at least one methylene acceptor, at least one methylene donor, and optionally, at least one filler; wherein the cellulose ester additive comprises at least one cellulose ester. The cellulose ester additive can also comprise at least one compatibilizer and/or plasticizer.

Process to produce elastomeric compositions comprising cellulose ester additives

An elastomeric composition is provided comprising at least one non-fibril cellulose ester, at least one non-nitrile primary elastomer, optionally a starch, and at least 70 parts per hundred rubber (phr) of one or more fillers, wherein the weight ratio of the cellulose ester to the starch is at least 3:1, wherein the cellulose ester is in the form of particles having an average diameter of not more than 10 &#x3bc;m.

Cellulose esters in highly-filled elastomeric systems

A process to produce an elastomeric composition is provided. The process comprises blending at least one cellulose ester, at least one non-nitrile primary elastomer, and at least 70 phr of one or more fillers to produce the elastomeric composition, wherein at least a portion of the blending occurs at a temperature exceeding the Tg of said cellulose ester, and wherein the elastomeric composition exhibits a Mooney viscosity at 100&#xb0; C. as measured according to ASTM D1646 of not more than 110 AU.

Cellulose esters in pneumatic tires

A process for producing a tire component is provided. The process comprises: (a) blending at least one cellulose ester, at least one non-nitrile primary elastomer, and at least 70 phr of one or more fillers to produce an elastomeric composition, wherein at least a portion of the blending occurs at a temperature exceeding the Tg of the cellulose ester, wherein the elastomeric composition exhibits a Mooney viscosity at 100&#xb0; C. as measured according to ASTM D1646 of not more than 110 AU; and (b) forming the tire component with the elastomeric composition.

A tire is provided comprising a cellulose ester/elastomer composition wherein the cellulose ester/elastomer comprises at least one cellulose ester, at least one elastomer, and at least one additive selected from the group consisting of at least one compatibilizer and at least one plasticizer.

Tires comprising cellulose ester/elastomer compositions

A cellulose ester composition is provided comprising at least one cellulose ester and at least one additive selected from the group consisting of a compatibilizer, and a plasticizer. Processes for producing the cellulose ester composition are also provided. In another embodiment, a cellulose ester/elastomer composition is provided comprising at least one elastomer, at least one cellulose ester; and at least one additive; wherein the additive is at least one selected from the group consisting of a compatibilizer and a plasticizer. Processes for producing the cellulose ester/elastomer composition is also provided as well as articles comprising the cellulose ester/elastomer composition.
