Aspects of the disclosure provide a method and system for power amplifier characterization and digital predistortion. The method includes receiving a test signal including K samples with a sampling rate f, generating a synthetic test signal including the test signal and a sequence of (N&#x2212;1) delayed versions of the test signal, generating an under-sampled signal including M samples by sampling, at a sampling rate f/N, an output signal of a device-under-test (DUT) with the synthetic test signal as an input of the DUT, the M samples of the under-sampled signal including N segments each including K/N samples, and generating a reconstructed signal including the M samples of the under-sampled signal.

An embodiment provides an amplifier system with multiple amplification paths connected to a combiner for combination of signals amplified in the amplification paths, each amplification path comprising an amplifier and a matching network provided between the amplifier and the combiner, wherein the individual amplifiers can interact through the combiner, causing an active load-pull effect. The matching networks of the paths comprise harmonic terminations configured to one or more of reduce an overlap between the voltage and current waveforms within the amplifier connected to the matching network and improve the linearity of one or more of the amplifiers.

An enhanced loop in a passive tuner consists of an extremely low loss coupler and a high directivity circulator. In the case of source reflection factor synthesis, a passive loop generates an additional incident traveling wave. This wave, added to the primary incident traveling wave, augments the traveling wave and thus increases the magnitude of the synthesized reflection factor at the source port of a device, such as a transistor. In the case of load reflection factor synthesis, the passive loop augments the initial reflected traveling wave by pumping an additional traveling wave. This additional traveling wave helps in synthesizing a higher load reflection factor at the load port. This architecture is capable of high reflection factor synthesis that enables load synthesis even on the border of the Smith chart. There is no problem of instability with the architecture of the present invention.
