To provide a catalyst, which is formed from a perovskite oxide, for thermochemical fuel production, and a method of producing fuel using thermochemical fuel production that is capable of allowing a fuel to be produced in a thermochemical manner. Provided is a catalyst for thermochemical fuel production, which is used for producing the fuel from thermal energy by using a two-step thermochemical cycle of a first temperature and a second temperature that is equal to or lower than the first temperature, wherein the catalyst is formed from a perovskite oxide having a compositional formula of AXO(provided that, 0&#x2266;&#x3b4;&#x2266;1). Here, A represents one or more of a rare-earth element (excluding Ce), an alkaline earth metal element, and an alkali metal element, X represents one or more of a transition metal element and a metalloid element, and O represents oxygen.

Catalysts for thermochemical fuel production and method of producing fuel using thermochemical fuel production

The present invention provides a method for storing thermal energy, such as solar energy, as a fuel, by heating a reactive oxide substrate to a first temperature, such that the reactive oxide substrate is reduced, wherein the reactive oxide substrate includes a cerium oxide. The method also includes contacting the reduced reactive oxide substrate at a second temperature with a gas mixture including carbon dioxide, wherein the first temperature is greater than the second temperature, thereby preparing the fuel. The present invention also provides a method for preparing the reactive oxide substrates by heating a mixture including a doped cerium oxide and a pore-forming agent, such that pores are formed in the doped cerium oxide, thereby forming the reactive oxide substrate.

Thermochemical synthesis of fuels for storing thermal energy

The present invention provides a method of preparing a nanostructure material on a substrate. The method includes spraying an aqueous solution from a capillary to the substrate, wherein the aqueous solution includes an electrolyte and an alcohol. The method also includes applying an electrical bias between the capillary and the substrate, such that the electrolyte deposits on the substrate forming the nanostructure material. The present invention also provides the nanostructure material prepared by this method.

Improved solid acid electrolyte materials, methods of synthesizing such materials, and electrochemical devices incorporating such materials are provided. The stable electrolyte material comprises a solid acid capable undergoing rotational disorder of oxyanion groups and capable of extended operation at elevated temperatures, that is, solid acids having hydrogen bonded anion groups; a superprotonic, trigonal, tetragonal, or cubic, disordered phase; and capable of being operating at temperatures of &#x2dc;100&#xb0; C. and higher.

Solid acid/surface-hydrogen-containing secondary component electrolyte composites, methods of synthesizing such materials, electrochemical device incorporating such materials, and uses of such materials in fuel cells, membrane reactors and hydrogen separations are provided. Advanced solid acid electrolyte composites

Improved cathode active materials for reduced temperature operation in single and dual chamber solid oxide fuel cells are provided. The cathode active materials comprise perovskites of the general form ABO, where A is a cation with approximately a +2 charge, and B is a cation with approximately a +4 charge. These perovskite cathode materials exhibit substantially enhanced power generation at operation temperatures less than or equal to 600&#xb0; C.

Processing techniques for the fabrication of solid acid fuel cell membrane electrode assemblies

The present invention relates to a power generator and method for forming the same. More specifically, the present invention comprises a chamber containing a solid oxide fuel cell (SOFC), with a spiral-wound counter-current heat exchanger encompassing the chamber. The spiral-wound counter-current heat exchanger includes a first inlet and an outlet, where both the first inlet and the outlet are connected with the chamber such that reactants introduced into the power generator flow into the first inlet and past the SOFC, where the reactants react to produce energy and reaction products. The reaction products thereafter transfer heat to the reactants and subsequently exit through the outlet. A reactor can be positioned downstream of the SOFC for converting reactants not reacted by the SOFC.
