The invention relates to method for manufacturing an electronic device comprising an organic layer (). According to this method, a stack with a metal layer () and an organic layer () as first and second outer layers is structured by etching both these outer layers. In one particular embodiment, an additional metal layer () may be generated on the outermost metal layer () by galvanic growth through a structured isolation 10 layer (). After removal of said isolation layer (), the metal () may be etched in the openings of the additional metal layer (). In a further etching step, the organic material () may be removed in said openings, too.

Method for manufacturing an organic electronic device

The invention relates to a voltage-light conversion device () like an OLED comprising a structured electrically conducting layer () on a substrate () and a further layer () that is part of an encapsulation and which comprises a layer edge (). The electrically conducting layer comprises in an edge region () close to the layer edge a structure edge (), wherein at least a part of the structure edge is not perpendicular to the layer edge. Since in the edge region at least a part of the structure edge is not perpendicular to the layer edge, during the production process for producing the further layer a possible flow of initially liquid layer material along the structure edge can be directed such that the liquid material remains relatively close to the desired layer edge, i.e. the liquid material can be better locally confined.

Voltage-light conversion device

The present invention relates to an encapsulated semiconductor device () provided on a flexible substrate (), a method of providing an at least partially encapsulated semiconductor device () on a flexible substrate () and a software product for providing an at least partially encapsulated semiconductor device () on a flexible substrate (). In a preferred embodiment, an encapsulation method is presented in which the organic layer () of an inorganic/organic/inorganic multilayer barrier () on a plastic foil () as a substrate is removed at the edges of an OLED (). The edges are subsequently sealed with a standard TFE process to encapsulate the OLED (). This enables cuttable OLEDs () that are cut out of a larger plastic substrate () and gives a method to reduce side leakage in OLEDs () that have been manufactured in a roll-to-toll process.

Encapsulated semiconductor device and encapsulation method

The invention relates to an electrical device comprising an electrical unit () like an organic light emitting diode, a protection element () like a thin film encapsulation, which at least partly covers the electrical unit, for protecting the electrical unit against water and/or oxygen, and a detection layer () arranged between the protection element and the electrical unit or within the protection element, wherein the detection layer comprises organic material and is adapted such that a property of the detection layer is changed, if the detection layer is in contact with a contact gas usable for detecting a permeability of the protection element. This allows easily integrating a fast detection test for detecting a permeability of the protection element into a production process for producing the electrical device, i.e. a time consuming external permeability test may not be required.

Electrical device

The invention describes a multi-device OLED () comprising a device layer stack () comprising a bottom electrode (), a top electrode (), at least one inter electrode () and plurality of active layers (), wherein the bottom electrode () is applied to a substrate (), and each active layer () is enclosed between two electrodes (); a current distribution means () comprising a current distribution layer () for each electrode () of the device layer stack (); a plurality of openings () extending from the top electrode () into the device layer stack (), wherein each opening () exposes a contact region () of an electrode (); and a plurality of electrical connectors (), wherein an electrical connector () extends into an opening () to electrically connect the electrode () exposed by that opening () to the current distribution layer () for that electrode (). The invention also describes a method of manufacturing such a multi-device OLED. The invention further describes a method of driving such a multi-device OLED, which method comprises applying a voltage across at least one pair () of current distribution layers () of the current distribution means () to stimulate the corresponding active layer () of a device of the multi-device OLED ().

Multi-device OLED

The invention relates to an organic electronic device, particularly an OLED device (), and to a method for its manufacturing. The device () comprises at least one functional unit (LU, LU, LU) with an organic layer (). On top of this functional unit (LU, LU, LU), at least one inorganic encapsulation layer () and at least one organic encapsulation layer () are disposed in which at least one conductive line () is embedded. In this way an OLED with a thin film encapsulation can be provided that can electrically be contacted at contact points (CL) on its back side.

The invention describes an OLED device () comprising an active layer () between a first electrode () and a second electrode (); a contact means () for connecting the electrodes () to a power supply (); and a brightness distribution controlling means (), which brightness distribution controlling means () comprises a plurality of openings (), wherein an opening () extends through the second electrode () and the active layer () to expose an area () of the first electrode (); and a plurality of selectively addressable current distribution lines (), wherein a current distribution line () is arranged to extend between a contact means () and an exposed area () such that an electrical connection can be established between the power supply () and the first electrode () to (specifically) regulate the brightness of the active layer () in the vicinity of the exposed area () accessed by that current distribution line (), and whereby the current distribution lines () are electrically connected to each other by means of the first electrode (). The invention further describes an OLED lighting arrangement () comprising such an OLED device (), a line regulation means () for regulating the current flow through a selectively addressable current distribution line () between the contact means () and the first electrode () to regulate the brightness of the active layer () in the vicinity of the exposed area () accessed by that current distribution line (); and a brightness distribution controller () for controlling the line activation means () to address a specific current distribution line (). The invention also describes a method of manufacturing an OLED device () with a brightness distribution controlling means (). The invention also describes a method of controlling the brightness of distribution of such an OLED device in such an OLED lighting arrangement.

The invention relates to a method enabling to apply cheap manufacturing techniques for producing reliable and robust organic thin film device (EL) comprising the steps of providing (P) a transparent substrate () at least partly covered with a first layer stack comprising at least one transparent layer (), preferably an electrically conductive layer, and a pattern of first and second opaque conductive areas () deposited on top of the transparent layer (), depositing (D) a photoresist layer () made of an electrically insulating photoresist resist material on top of the first layer stack at least fully covering the second opaque conductive areas (), illuminating (IL) the photoresist layer () through the transparent substrate () with light () of a suitable wavelength to make the photoresist material soluble in the areas () of the photoresist layer () having no opaque conductive areas () underneath, removing (R) the soluble areas () of the photoresist layer (), heating (B) the areas () of the photoresist layer () remaining on top of at least the second opaque conductive areas () to re-flow the photoresist layer () to cover the edges (E) of the second opaque conductive areas () in contact to the transparent layer (), and hardening (H) the remaining areas () of the photoresist layer (). The invention further relates to a conductive component (CC) for use in these organic thin film devices (EL) and to the organic thin film devices (EL) itself.

Self-aligned coverage of opaque conductive areas

The invention relates to OLED devices () operational at high voltages providing a good life time performance, which can be manufactured with reduced effort and costs. The organic electroluminescent device () comprising a substrate () carrying multiple electroluminescent layer stacks () connected in series each comprising a first and a second electrode () and an organic light emitting layer stack () arranged between the first and second electrode (), a cover lid () sealed to the substrate () to encapsulate the electroluminescent layer stacks () providing a gap () between the electroluminescent layer stacks () and an inner side () of the cover lid (), where the connection in series is established by connecting the first electrode () of at least one of the electroluminescent layer stacks () involved in the serial connection via a conductive bridge () to the second electrode () of another electroluminescent layer stack () involved in the serial connection, preferably the adjacent electroluminescent layer stack (), where the conductive bridge () comprises an conductive path () arranged on the inner side () of the cover lid (), a first electrical connection () connecting the first electrode () to the conductive path () and a second electrical connection () connecting the conductive path () with the second electrode () of the other electroluminescent layer stack (), preferably the adjacent electroluminescent layer stack (). The invention further relates to a method providing the organic electroluminescent device () with process steps leading to a reduced effort and costs.

Organic electroluminescent device

A light emitting device and a method for manufacturing the light emitting device are disclosed. In one example, the light emitting device includes a transparent substrate, partially transparent an anode layer or layer assembly arranged on said substrate, a light emitting layer arranged on said anode layer, and a transparent cathode layer arranged on said light emitting layer, wherein said anode layer or layer assembly includes a first surface facing said transparent substrate and a second surface facing said light emitting layer and is positioned opposite to said first surface, said first surface includes a transparent conductive material, said second surface includes first and second domains, said first domains are conductive and non-transparent, said second domains are transparent and electrically isolating, and said first domains are in direct contact with said light emitting layer and are arranged to allow electrical contact between said first surface and said light emitting layer.
