There is described a method of optically coupling a first optical fiber and a second optical fiber to one another. The method generally has a step of bringing a free end of the first optical fiber, the second optical fiber and liquid in close proximity to one another within a coupling region, the free end of the first optical fiber having a dimension below a critical dimension, the free end of the first optical fiber moving within said liquid to contact the second optical fiber along a given coupling length, said contact optically coupling the free end of the first optical fiber and the second optical fiber to one another.

There is described a wearable respiration sensor generally having a stretchable substrate to be worn around a user's torso; and a dipole antenna having two flexible conductive elements extending in opposite directions from a center, relative to a dipole axis, and being secured to the stretchable substrate, each of the two flexible conductive elements having a proximate end near the center, a distal end away from the center, and a curved portion curving away from and back towards the dipole axis between the proximate end and the distal end, the two flexible conductive elements being in a point reflection symmetry relative to one another relative to said center in a manner that, when the stretchable substrate is stretched along the dipole axis, the curved portions of the two flexible conductive elements are flattened and the distal ends are moved away from one another.

Wearable respiration sensor and respiration monitoring system

A GPS system for obtaining data from a GPS signal received at a plurality of antenna stations, each antenna station being connected to a common receiver station through an optical fiber link. The system includes a light generating module at the receiver station generating an optical reference signal, and an antenna station module at each antenna station. The antenna station modules modulate the optical reference signal according to the GPS signal received, obtaining a twice modulated optical signal, and sending this signal to the receiver station. Finally, an output module is provided at the receiver station, this module being used for extracting the GPS signal and the oscillating reference signal, calibrating in real time the optical fiber links based on a phase comparison, and processing the GPS signal from the antenna stations, taking into account the real time calibration of the optical fiber links.

Method and system for high precision GPS applications

A multi-wavelength laser source is provided including a pump laser unit, a gain section and an output. The pump laser unit generates an energy signal, which is applied to the gain section. The gain section includes a gain medium with having a superstructure grating forming a distributed Fabry-Perot-like structure. The superstructure grating causes a multi-wavelength laser signal to be generated when the energy signal is applied to the gain medium. The multi-wavelength laser signal is then released at the output.

Multi-wavelength laser source

A device for tailoring the chromatic dispersion of a multi-channel light signal is proposed. The device includes at least two waveguides coupled in a cascade, each provided with a spatially distributed optical filter. The group delay response of the filters is designed so that the group delay of each channel of the light signal can be tuned independently of the others, and an appropriate tuning mechanism is provided for this purpose. The device may advantageously be used as a flexible dispersion compensator.
