An optical disc drive that includes a driving unit including a spindle motor to rotate an optical disc, an optical pickup to access the optical disc, and a connection board connected to a computer. A control board to control the driving unit, is installed at an interface device of the computer, separate from the driving unit, and is connected to the connection board.

A host apparatus includes an ultrasound receiving unit receiving an ultrasound signal from a pointing apparatus and outputting an electric signal. A controlling unit calculates a position of a pointer on a display screen corresponding to a position of the pointing apparatus based on the electric signal from the ultrasound receiving unit, and outputs a control signal to the display screen to position the pointer at the calculated position of the display screen.

Also, by filling a resonance container of the resonator with a porous member, the high frequency noise band and the overall noise level can be reduced.

Thus, as the vibration absorber vibrates in response to vibration of the frame, in a direction to offset the vibration if the frame, the vibration of the frame can be reduced.

The color laser printer is constructed such that a plurality of light sources emitting the beams of one polarization are arranged separately and the beams emitted from the light sources are combined by the polarization prism to enter the f-&#x3b8; lens, thereby reducing a thickness of the f-&#x3b8; lens.

An optical pickup device includes a light unit for irradiating a light beam having a wavelength longer than 650 nm onto a recording medium and receiving and detecting a light beam reflected by the recording medium, and an objective tens formed of a single lens having an NA of 0.7 or more to form a light spot on the recording medium by condensing an incident light beam emitted from the light unit. A recording medium has a recording density of a DVD family or more and is formed of a material suitable for a long wavelength of 700 nm or more so that a reproduction signal by a reflectance of a recording surface is optimized. A disk cartridge and a disk recording and/or reproduction apparatus including a protrusion group which is made up of a plurality of protrusions and formed within a case housing a disk or within a housing in which a disk is loaded. Accordingly, the protrusions induce the flow of air generated during the rotation of the disk to serve as a force generated by variations in flow velocity and pressure. Therefore, foreign materials can be effectively removed from the surface of the disk using the flow of air without a separate cleaning apparatus.

The disc balancing device includes a disc assembly having a driving source, and a disc rotatably disposed at the driving source, a displacement measurement unit measuring vibration in the rotation of the disc assembly, a phase angle measurement unit measuring a phase angle from a reference point of the disc assembly in the rotation of the disc assembly, an operation/control unit calculating an eccentric mass and an eccentric position of the disc assembly, by using the biased vibration measured in the displacement measurement unit and the phase angle measured in the phase angle measurement unit, and a laser cutter tracking and laser-cutting the side portion of the disc corresponding to the eccentric position according to the information from the operation/control unit, whereby the eccentric mass of the disc assembly is balanced to reduce vibration in the rotation.

Disc balancing device

A tray guide mechanism for an optical disc drive guides a backward and forward movement of a tray installed to slide into and out of a housing made of a lower case and an upper case. The tray guide mechanism includes guide rails installed to slide into and out of both sides of the upper case, a guide rail supporting unit installed at both sides of the lower case, to prevent the guide rails from deviating from a backward and forward moving path, and rail combiners formed at both sides of the tray in a moving path of the tray, and combined with the guide rails to slide into the guide rails. The tray guide mechanism also includes a forward moving distance limiting unit to limit a moving distance of the tray and the guide rails in a direction to which the tray and the guide rails project to prevent the tray from detaching from the housing. The tray guide mechanism also includes vertical and horizontal restrainers to prevent vertical and horizontal movement of the tray. The guide rails are shaped such that the rail combiners are inserted thereinto, and includes rails which slide into and out of the rail combiners while remaining in contact with the rail combiners. The guide rails also include rail covers which are fixed to outer sides of the rails and slide into and out of the lower case while being in contact with the lower case. The tray guide mechanism is configured such that a guide rail is installed in contact with a rail and a rail cover, and thus is strengthened to firmly support the tray and is installed in a narrow space of the compact optical disc drive. Also, the tray guide mechanism includes the vertical and horizontal restrainers that prevent vertical and horizontal vibration or swaying of the tray.

A tray locking apparatus of a disc drive to lock a tray on which a disc is placed and which is inserted into a main body of a disc drive. The tray locking apparatus includes a locking boss provided at the main body, a locking plate installed at the tray to slide and having a locking portion provided at one side thereof which is caught by the locking boss as the tray enters the main body, an elastic member to elastically bias the locking plate in a direction in which the locking portion is caught by the locking boss, and a driving mechanism to make the locking plate slide to be out of a position where the locking portion is caught by the locking boss when the tray is drawn. Thus, even when an external impact is applied, the locking state can be firmly maintained. Also, electric power consumed for the locking and unlocking operations is reduced.
