A plasma display panel (PDP) including: first and second opposing substrates; a discharge layer disposed between the substrates, having discharge cells; address electrodes disposed on the first substrate, extending in a first direction, across the discharge cells; and display electrodes disposed on the second substrate, extending across the discharge cells in a second direction. The discharge layer includes: a discharge enhancement layer disposed on the first substrate, having first spaces; and a barrier rib layer disposed on the discharge enhancement layer, having second spaces that are connected to the first spaces, so as to form the discharge cells. The discharge enhancement layer further includes a perimeter member disposed in a dummy area provided at the edges of an effective area of the PDP.

A shadow mask for a cathode ray tube has an effective screen portion having a plurality of beam passage holes arranged in a predetermined pattern, and an inactive portion with no beam passage holes. The length of a beam passage hole at a column adjacent to a division between the effective screen portion and the inactive portion (hereinafter 'the beam passage hole length') in the long-sided direction is set to be smaller than the length of a beam passage hole placed at the short-sided center of the column. The beam passage hole length 'a' at columns which are even-numbered from the long-sided center of the effective screen portion is set to satisfy the condition of 1&#x3e;a/A&#x2267;0.45, compared to the length A of the beam passage hole placed at the short-sided center of relevant columns. The beam passage hole length &#x201c;b&#x201d; at columns which are odd-numbered is set to satisfy the condition of 1&#x3e;b/B&#x2267;0.35, compared to the length B of the beam passage hole placed at the short-sided center of relevant columns.

A shadow mask for a Cathode Ray Tube (CRT) which achieves a high brightness and white uniformity by minimizing light emission of incorrect colors, includes: an effective screen portion with a plurality of beam passage holes arranged in a predetermined pattern and a non-holed portion surrounding the effective screen portion with no beam passage holes. The beam passage holes have a large-sized hole portion on a side facing a panel of the CRT and a small-sized hole portion that is smaller than the large-sized hole portion on a side facing an electron gun are selected such. A concave portion is formed on each of the beam passage holes arranged in a direction from a center of the effective screen portion to a direction of emission, and the concave portion is varied from the center of the effective screen portion diagonally such that a serif width D satisfies D=a&#x2212;bx+cx2 (wherein a, b, and c are constants, and x is a spatial distance from the center of the effective screen portion to the center of the beam passage hole) and a, b, and c are selected such that {c/(b+c)} has an absolute value between 0.0092 and 0.0099.
