A frequency converter for a microwave system includes: a balun having a slot line connected in a parallel T-junction with a first microstrip line for receiving a radio frequency signal; first and second strip lines respectively disposed on either side of the first microstrip line; second and third microstrip lines respectively connected to outer ends of the first and second strip lines to provide signal paths for inputting local oscillation signals and for outputting intermediate frequency signals; first and second open end circuits respectively connected to both ends of the slot line, and a quad diode mixer bridge having a pair of diode connection points connected to the slot line and having another pair of diode connection points respectively connected to the second and third microstrip lines, the radio frequency signal and local oscillation signals being converted into corresponding intermediate signals therein.

Frequency converter used in a microwave system

A device and a method for combining outputs of a plurality of linear power amplifiers while preventing loss of signals. The combined linear power amplifying device, including: a power divider module which has paths connected respectively between one input terminal and a plurality of output terminals and switches connected respectively to each of the output terminals, for dividing power of a RF signal input to the power divider module and respectively outputting the divided power to the output terminals; a power combiner module which has paths connected respectively between a plurality of input terminals and one output terminal and the switches connected respectively to each of the input terminals, for combining power of a RF signal input to the power combiner module and outputting the combined power; and linear power amplifiers which are connected between the output terminals of the power divider module and the input terminals of the power combiner module, for linearly amplifying the RF signal power-divided in the power divider module thereby outputting the linearly amplified signal to the power combiner module, and upon generation of a failed state of the linear power amplifiers, the failed amplifier opening the path of the affected RF signal by turning off the corresponding switches in said power divider module and said power combiner module.

Combined linear power amplifying device and method

A linear power amplifier and method for removing the intermodulation distortion with a predistortion system and a feed forward system. The linear power amplifier having a main power amplifier includes: a predistortion system for firstly suppressing the intermodulation signal generated upon amplification of an RF signal in the main power amplifier, by generating a harmonics corresponding to the input RF signal and a predistortion signal with coupling the RF signal to the harmonics; and a feed forward system for secondly suppressing the intermodulation signal by canceling the input RF signal and the output of the main power amplifier, extracting an intermodulation signal distortion, error-amplifying the extracted intermodulation signal distortion, and coupling the amplified intermodulation signal with the output of the main power amplifier.

Linear power amplifier and method for removing intermodulation

A radio frequency power combiner includes a plurality of transmission lines connecting a plurality of input terminals to an output terminal. An RF switch is positioned between each of the input terminals and a transmission line connecting the output terminal to the input terminal. The electrical length between each RF switch and the output terminal is preferably one half of a wavelength at a central frequency, which may be realized by two transmission lines of different impedances in each path, each a quarter wavelength long. When the switches are on, the signal power applied to all of the input terminals is combined at the output terminal. When any given switch is turned off, the RF power incident to the switch is reflected, and the transmission lines connected between that switch and the output terminal appear as an open circuit. The power combiner can also operate as a power divider. The combiner and/or divider have particular utility in RF amplifier applications, to prevent excessive loss of RF power when one or more of the amplifiers fail, by switching off the RF switch(es) connected to the failed amplifier(s).
