Some aryl sulfonic acid-functionalized solids were prepared by a new method. The catalytic activities of esterification by the prepared aryl sulfonic acid-functionalized solids were also tested.

Preparation of phenol- or thiophenyl-sulfonic acid functionalized solid acids

A facile synthesis route for preparing SBA-15 silica of platelet shape and very short mesochannels was developed by introducing a small amount of Zr(IV) ions in the first synthesis solution. The synthesis route can be easily extended to prepare SBA-15 materials with various organic functional groups in one pot.

A method for the preparing pure, thermally stable and high surface area ceria is described, wherein the ceria maintains a surface area of 12 m/g after calcination at 980&#xb0; C. in air for 4 hours. In the method, an aqueous solution containing Ce, Mg, organic acid and organic polymer is prepared and then evaporated to obtain a gel. The gel is calcined to obtain a mixed oxide, and then MgO is leached from the mixed oxide with a solvent to obtain raw ceria. The raw ceria is then washed, filtered and dried to obtain a ceria product.

Method for preparing pure, thermally stable and high surface area ceria

A method of oxidizing trimethylphenol (TMP) to trimethylbenzoquinone (TMBQ) by various molecular sieves containing various transition metals. In this method, TMP, a molecular sieve containing a transition metal in its framework, an oxidant and a solvent are mixed together to form a reaction system. The reaction system reacting at a temperature of about room temperature to 150&deg; C. to obtain TMBQ, and the concentration of TMP is about 5-60% wt.

The present invention provides methods for preparing hydrothermally stable MCM-41 mesoporous molecular sieves incorporating aluminum and other transition metals. The materials prepared by these methods possess a very high surface area and narrow uniform pore distribution in the mesopore region, and are highly thermally stable whereby the ions are not leached out after high temperature annealing.

Synthesis of hydrothermally stable metal incorporated mesoporous molecular sieve of MCM-41 type

The invention relates to a novel one-step process for preparation of phenol by oxidation of benzene with hydrogen peroxide catalyzed by molecular sieves doped with copper ions. With proper solvent, a phenol yield around 15-35%, selectivity close to 100% and phenol/Cu TON around 100 could be achieved. These results show that the inventive process is of great economical value for further development in large scale production of phenol.
