A system of controlling a steering apparatus of a vehicle that has a motor driving section provided with a motor and a motor shaft, a power delivery section delivering a torque of the motor for assisting maneuvering force to a steering column, and a variable steering section controlling an angle and a length of the steering column by the torque of the motor, may include a first converting section selectively delivering the torque to one of the power delivery section and the variable steering section by using a motor clutch, a connecting section selectively connected to the first converting section and delivering the torque to the variable steering section, and a control portion controlling operations of the motor, and the motor clutch, wherein the motor clutch is a clutch using a first electromagnet, and wherein the control portion controls supply of current to the first electromagnet of the motor clutch.

A hybrid motor driven power steering system for a commercial vehicle may include a MDPS unit to generate motor output torque depending on driver steering torque, an EHPS unit to generate hydraulic output torque considering the motor output torque of the MDPS unit, a ball nut type gear box to generate output torque which operates a tie rod leading to left and right wheels after being input with the driver steering torque, the motor output torque, and the hydraulic output torque, and two torsion bars to block torque fluctuation rates at respective regions of a joint by detecting a road surface reaction force transferred to a steering column through the ball nut type gear box in at least two different positions. Accordingly, it may be possible to provide a steering capacity required in small-sized, medium-sized and full-sized commercial vehicles.

A steering apparatus may include a motor; a motor shaft connected to the motor and adapted to deliver torque of the motor; a variable steering section connected to a steering column coupled to a steering handle and adapted to change angle and length of the steering column; and a connecting section adapted to receive from the motor shaft and deliver to the variable steering section the torque of the motor, wherein the variable steering section includes a tilting device adapted to change the angle of the steering column, a telescopic device adapted to change the length of the steering column, a variable steering clutch adapted to be coupled with one of the tilting device and the telescopic device selectively, and a delivery member coupled to the variable steering clutch and adapted to deliver the torque of the motor received from the connecting section to the variable steering clutch.

A u-MDPS (United Motor Driven Power Steering) system includes one MDPS motor, one MDPS ECU that assists steering force using power of the MDPS motor, and has a logic implementing tilting-up/down and telescopic movement, and a multi-function generator that switches a power transmission path of the MDPS motor to the steering path for assisting a steering force, the tilt path for tilting up/down a column tube, or the telescopic path for facilitating a telescopic movement of the column tube. The multi-function generator may include a motor power converting unit, a motor power transmitting unit and a tilt&#x2022;telescopic motion unit. The tilt&#x2022;telescopic motion unit further includes an electromagnetic clutch, which makes it possible to implement fail-safety function by switching to a lock-manual mode of one MDPS motor.

A steering apparatus for a vehicle may include a steering pinion rotated by operation of a steering wheel, and a steering rack bar having a rack engaged with the steering pinion to move straight in a longitudinal direction thereof, wherein a tooth gap in a gear of the rack changes such that a steering gear ratio corresponding to a linear displacement of the steering rack bar according to rotation of the steering pinion increases and then decreases in both sections from the center of the rack to both ends thereof.
