Provided is an apparatus and method for comparing a protein structure, which can search a protein similar to an inquiry protein in a 3D protein database in real time by describing a feature of a protein structure by using a three-dimensional (3D) relative directional angle (RDA) and a Fourier descriptor. The apparatus includes: a 3D RDA coder configured to code a 3D RDA of a target protein data or an inquiry protein data inputted from the outside; a Fourier transformer configured to obtain Fourier coefficients by Fourier transforming 3D RDA coding values coded by the 3D RDA coder; a comparator configured to compare the obtained Fourier coefficient of the target protein data with the obtained Fourier coefficient of the inquiry protein data; and a data generator configured to output protein data in order from high similarity to low similarity according to the comparison result of the comparator.

Apparatus and method for comparing protein structure using 3D RDA and Fourier descriptor

Provided are a fall detecting apparatus and method and an emergency aid system and method using the same. The fall detecting apparatus includes a storing unit configured to store fall data vectors; an angular velocity measuring unit configured to measure an angular velocity value; an acceleration measuring unit configured to measure an acceleration value; an acceleration extracting unit configured to extract a kinetic acceleration value and a gravitational acceleration value by filtering the acceleration value measured by the acceleration measuring unit; and a fall determining unit configured to convert the angular velocity value, which is measured by the angular velocity measuring unit, and the kinetic acceleration value and the gravitational acceleration value, which are extracted by the acceleration extracting unit, into a fall data vector, and determine a use's fall by comparing the converted fall data vector with the fall data vector stored in the storing unit.

Fall detecting apparatus and method, and emergency aid system and method using the same

A method for constructing a database having digital video data information representing a plurality of video sequence is disclosed. The method includes the steps of: a) partitioning each image frame of each video sequence into L number of sub images; b) generating L number of edge histograms for each image frame; c) normalizing the edge histogram bins to thereby generate M number of normalized edge histogram bins; d) calculating M representative edge histogram bins in order to generate L number of representative edge histograms based on the normalized edge histogram bins; and e) non-linearly quantizing the representative edge histogram bins to generate M number of quantization index values for the each representative edge histogram, to be stored in the database.

The apparatus for searching multimedia data includes: a mapping information storing unit for storing and managing mapping information between a Moving Picture Experts Group 7 (MPEG-7) query attribute and an MPEG-7 metadata property; and a query attribute mapping unit for acquiring the MPEG-7 metadata property to be mapped with the MPEG-7 query attribute according to a user query based on the mapping information.

A method for constructing a database having image information representing a plurality of images including the steps of: a) calculating L&#xd7;5 number of normalized edge histogram bins to generate L number of edge histograms of a target image, wherein each edge histogram has five normalized edge histogram bins and represents a spatial distribution of five reference edges in a sub-image and L is a positive integer, wherein the reference edges include four directional edges and a non-directional edge; b) non-linearly quantizing the L&#xd7;5 number of normalized edge histogram bins to generate L&#xd7;5 number of quantization index values for the target image; c) storing the L&#xd7;5 number of quantization index values to the database; and d) repeating the steps a) to c) until all of the stored images are processed to thereby construct the database having the image information.
