An optical pickup device, which reduces the size of an optical spot formed on an optical disk, and prevents the degradation of a tracking error signal due to coherent light from a layer adjacent a target recording/reproducing layer of the optical disk. The optical pickup device includes a light source emitting light at a designated wavelength; an object lens concentrating the light incident from the light source thereupon and forming an optical spot on an optical disk having multiple recording layers; and an optical detector receiving the light reflected by the optical disk and detecting a data signal and an error signal, wherein at least one diffraction pattern region partially diffracting or intercepting the light, emitted from the light source and being incident upon the object lens, and the light, reflected by optical disk and being incident upon the object lens, is formed on the object lens.

Optical pickup device with diffraction patterns on object lens

An optical pickup apparatus includes a first objective lens having a low numerical aperture (NA) suitable for a low-density recording medium, a second objective lens having a high NA suitable for a high-density recording medium, a first light source to generate a short-wavelength optical signal to use the first and second objective lenses, a first photo-detector to receive an optical signal, which is generated from the first light source, is focused on a recording medium by the first and second objective lenses, and is then reflected from the recording medium, and a beam splitter to perform a division of the optical signal generated from the first light source, to direct some parts of the divided optical signal to the first objective lens, and to direct the other parts of the divided optical signal to the second objective lens.

Optical pickup apparatus

An optical pickup device is provided with a plurality of object lens corresponding to various kinds of optical discs having different recording densities, in which the structure of the optical pickup device is simplified and the size of the optical pickup device is minimized. The optical pickup device comprises a bobbin including an upper surface, at which first and second object lenses are mounted, an opened lower surface, and a first and second side surfaces supported by a supporting unit, the first and second side surfaces being opposite to each other, a first focus coil and a first tracking coil mounted at a third side surface of the bobbin, a second focus coil and a second tracking coil mounted at a fourth side surface of the bobbin, which is opposite to the third side surface, and magnets disposed opposite to the first and second focus coils and the first and second tracking coils.

Optical pickup device

A compatible optical pick-up apparatus, which records to and/or reproduce from both digital versatile disc (DVD)-type optical disks and compact disc (CD)-type optical disks for improving a signal regeneration capacity and a tracking capacity in operation at a high temperature. A polarized hologram of the optical pick-up apparatus is divided into six diffraction regions. The rays of a first light diffracted at the first and second diffraction regions are separately received by divided parts of a first bisected light-receiving portion of a photodetector.

Optical pick-up apparatus

A laser pick-up device for an optical disk receives three laser beams to irradiate the optical disk and uses a six-division optical detector to detect the laser beams reflected from the optical disk and to track exactly the optical disk. A reflection type diffraction grating is positioned at a front position in order to divide and reflect the laser beam generated by a laser diode. A holographic element having the function of a toric lens is used as a diffracting device for the reflected beams. The six-division optical detector is positioned to one side and/or behind the diffraction grating. The grid gaps of the holographic element can be larger using the present invention which simplifies the manufacturing the holographic element and thereby provides a laser pick-up device that is suitable for mass production.
