An apparatus is provided and includes a rotary encoder that comprises a stator, a rotor, and a controller. The stator has an opening adapted to surround a first portion of a rotatable shaft, a transmit region, and a receive region. The rotor has an opening adapted to surround a second portion of the rotatable shaft, an annular conductive region, and at least one conductor electrically coupled with the annular conductive region. The controller has an input coupled to the receive region and has an output coupled to the transmit region. The controller is configured to transmit a first signal on the output of the controller and to the transmit region of the stator, receive a second signal on the input of the controller and from the receive region of the stator, and determine, based on the second signal, a proximity of the at least one conductor to the receive region.

Capacitive-sensing rotary encoder

A system generating an electrical signal based on at least one physical quantity, includes sensor units each generating an individual electrical signal in response to the at least one physical quantity, a selecting unit selecting a first number of sensor units from the sensor units and outputting a first combined electrical signal based on the first number of sensor units, and a calibrating unit determining a second number of sensor units to be selected based on the first combined electrical signal.

Method and sensor system with integrated calibration mechanism

A circuit includes a timer to count edges of a clock from an initial count value to a terminal count value and to output a timer signal responsive to the terminal count value being reached. A random number generator circuit generates a plurality of random number values. Each generated random number value is sequentially loaded into the timer as one of the initial count value or the terminal count value. A capacitive sensor circuit determines, responsive to receipt of a plurality of timer signals from the timer, a touch event of a capacitive touch sensor.

Touch sensor circuit

An apparatus for filtering touches and disturbances of a container comprises a processing unit (PU) and computer-readable storage devices storing machine instructions. The PU obtains and sums together sensor values for a first sampling time from electrodes affixed to the container. The PU determines a difference between the sum for the first sampling time and a sum for a second sampling time, which is compared to a threshold representative of a change in capacitance due to a touch on the container. The PU determines whether the touch on the container has occurred at the first sampling time based on the comparison. If a touch occurred, the PU continues to obtain additional sensor values for additional sampling times and determine whether a touch on the container has occurred at the additional sampling times, until determining no touch occurred. The PU determines liquid level for the container after determining no touch occurred.
