The at least one processor is configured to detect, by using the ambient light sensor, ambient light of the electronic device during a first duration in a state in which the display is turned off, identify a setting for being used for the ambient light sensor, based at least in part on a characteristic of the ambient light, detect, by using the ambient light sensor, ambient light of the electronic device during a second duration based at least in part on the identified setting, and control a function of the display, based at least in part on the characteristic of the ambient light detected during the second duration.
