A fiber optic connector structure contains a base, a covering member, and a fitting sleeve. The base includes a holding face, two contacting portions, and at least one slot. A respective one of the at least one slot has an opening and has a bottom portion. The bottom portion of the respective one of the at least one slot has at least one notch, and a respective one of the at least one notch has a first inserting segment and a second inserting segment. The covering member includes two resilient extensions corresponding to the two contacting portions and a sliding block sliding from the opening to the bottom portion. The fitting sleeve is fitted on the base and the covering member, and provides a force on the sliding block, so that the sliding block retains the fiber stub and the field fiber.

Fiber optic connector structure

A bi-directional transceiver, integrated module based on a silicon optical bench is provided, which comprises at least a laser diode, at least a signal detector, at least a thin film filter, at least an optical lens, an optical fiber and an SiOB. As the optical signal of specific wavelength can be reflected or inserted by thin film filter, the module has functions of a wavelength division multiplexer and a bi-direction transceiver. Furthermore, the optical lens improves the coupling efficiency between the laser diode and the optical fiber. On the other hand, a plurality of optical elements are integrated on the same SiOB. Hence, only a single optical fiber is used and optical signals of multiple wavelengths can be handled simultaneously.

Bi-directional transceiver module based on silicon optic bench

The present invention discloses an optic based wavelength division multiplexer device made by a micro lithography and etching process, utilizing the special crystal lattice structure of a silicon wafer. The device comprises a silicon substrate with grooves, an input fiber optic of incoming port with its front lens, a fiber optic of pass port with its front lens, a fiber optic of reflect port with its front lens, and a thin-film filter. The fiber optics, lenses, and the thin-film filter are inserted into grooves to complete the fiber-to-fiber alignment and coupling. The present invention provides both functions of wavelength multiplexing and wavelength demultiplexing. The present invention also has the characteristics of automatic alignment and passive alignment.

Silicon optic based wavelength division multiplexing device

An optical circulator having reduced size and low polarization mode dispersion is disclosed. A transparent optical circulator comprises a first birefringent crystal, a first pair of Faraday polarization rotators having two Faraday polarization rotators aligned in parallel with the propagation direction of an optical signal, a second birefringent crystal, a second pair of Faraday polarization rotators similar to the first pair of Faraday polarization rotators, and a third birefringent crystal. The optical circulator with a reflector or an input/output device and the Faraday rotators together reduce the total size of the circulator, increase the number of input/output ports, and improve the propagation quality of the optical signal by decreasing the polarization mode dispersion. A reflective optical circulator is also presented.

Optical circulator

An optical isolator is placed in the path of an input optical fiber and an output optical fiber, the optical isolator comprises: a first GRIN lens for receiving rays emitted from the input optical fiber and converging into parallel rays; a first birefringent crystal wedge for splitting the parallel rays into a first ray polarized along the birefringent crystal's optical axis and a second ray polarized perpendicularly to the optical axis; a second birefringent crystal wedge for recombining the first ray and the second ray wherein at least one of the first birefringent crystal wedge and the second birefringent crystal wedge comprises a birefringent crystal of YVO.sub.4 ; a second GRIN lens for focusing the recombined rays into the output optical fiber through the second birefringent crystal wedge; a Faraday rotator is mounted between the first birefringent crystal wedge and the second birefringent crystal wedge so that the rays emitted from the input optical fiber can be recombined and focused into the output optical fiber, and the rays reflected from the output optical fiber will be diverged and cannot be refocused into the input optical fiber.

Optical isolator

A method of producing an optical attenuator with any desired attenuation, by parallelly overlapping and welding two fibers at their ends. A light source is connected to one of the fibers and a power meter is connected to the other. The fibers is heated until readout of the power meter reaches a predetermined value, and a mode filter is applied to the welded portion to prevent unstable mode condition.

Method of fabricating an optical attenuator

An apparatus for fabricating an optical fiber coupler having a well-controlled quality and an improved packaged strength is provided. The apparatus includes a holding device holding thereon a quartz tube sleeving therein an optical fiber strand having a spliced portion to be fused, two pulling stages oppositely pulling the fiber strand, a heating device having two torch blowpipes for heating through the quartz tube the spliced portion, a first driving mechanism for oppositely translating the pulling stages, a second driving mechanism for reciprocatingly translating the blowpipes along the quartz tube, and a programmable controller coupled to and for controlling the heating device, the first and the second driving mechanisms. A method for fabricating the optical fiber coupler is also disclosed.
