An acoustic liner includes a first face sheet, a second face sheet spaced from the first face sheet, and a plurality of sidewalls extending between the first face sheet and the second face sheet. The plurality of sidewalls defines a plurality of cells. Each cell of the plurality of cells defines a cavity between the first face sheet and the second face sheet. A bulk absorber is disposed within at least one cell of the plurality of cells. The bulk absorber further defines the cavity of the at least one cell of the plurality of cells. The first face sheet defines a plurality of apertures extending through a thickness of the first face sheet. Each aperture of the plurality of apertures is aligned with a respective cell of the plurality of cells.

Acoustic liner and method of forming an acoustic liner

An assembly is provided for an aircraft propulsion system. This assembly includes a first acoustic panel and a second acoustic panel. The first acoustic panel includes a first perforated skin, a first non-perforated skin and a first cellular core arranged between and connected to the first perforated skin and the first non-perforated skin. The first perforated skin is configured with a plurality of first perforations. A first of the first perforations has a first width. A second acoustic panel includes a second perforated skin, a second non-perforated skin and a second cellular core arranged between and connected to the second perforated skin and the second non-perforated skin. The second perforated skin is configured with a plurality of second perforations. A first of the second perforations has a second width that is smaller than the first width.

Aircraft propulsion system assembly including one or more acoustic panels

A manufacturing process is provided that includes steps of: providing a panel comprising a core connected to a first skin, wherein the panel is configured with a plurality of cavities extending through the core to the first skin; partially forming a first perforation in the first skin using a laser beam; operating a sensor to sense optical emissions produced during the partial forming of the first perforation; and determining, based on an output of the sensor, whether to: continue formation of the first perforation in the first skin; or terminate formation of the first perforation in the first skin.

Systems and methods for detecting damage in composite components are disclosed. A first attachment feature and a second attachment feature may be coupled to a composite component. A transmitting device may be coupled to the first attachment feature. A receiving device may be coupled to the second attachment feature. A signal may be transmitted from the transmitting device, through the first attachment feature, through the composite component, and through the second attachment feature to the receiving device. The signal may be analyzed to detect damage in the composite component.

A process is provided for forming a plurality of apertures in a fiber-reinforced composite object using a laser. The apertures include at least a first aperture and a second aperture. During the process, a scanner head of the laser is operated from a location to selectively scan a laser beam over the object to form a first portion of the first aperture and to form a first portion of the second aperture. The scanner head is also operated from the location to selectively scan the laser beam over the object to form a second portion of the first aperture and to form a second portion of the second aperture.

A panel for a nacelle structure that surrounds a jet engine core includes a longitudinally extending, generally semicircular center region, an upper bifurcation region, a lower bifurcation region, a hinge beam region extending from the upper bifurcation region and configured to receive an upper thrust reverser track guide, and a latch beam region extending from the lower bifurcation region and configured to receive a lower thrust reverser track guide. A bypass duct is formed in a space between the panel and the nacelle structure. A hinge beam structure and latch beam structure are integrally formed with the panel. An inner skin layer extends continuously across a bond panel surface generally facing the engine core and an outer skin layer extends continuously across a bond panel surface generally facing the bypass duct, the inner and outer skin layers extending across the center region, upper and lower bifurcation regions, hinge beam region, and latch beam region. The outer skin layer may have an acoustic treatment, such as being perforated in at least the center region and the upper and lower bifurcation regions. In this way, a separate hinge beam and latch beam are not used, and therefore there is no need to couple the panel to the respective beams.

An acoustic liner that may be for a turbofan engine includes a first panel that may be non-permeable and a permeable panel spaced from the first panel. A non-permeable wall located between the first panel and the permeable panel faces in a first direction away from the first panel and a non-permeable wall, also between the panels, faces in a second direction away from the first panel and traversing the first direction. The liner may further include a plurality of sidewalls spaced from one-another, extending between the panels, and through the walls.

Acoustic liner

Acoustic panels and methods for manufacturing acoustic panels are provided. In one such method, a core structure is provided between and bonded to a top skin and a septum. A plurality of perforations are formed in the top skin using an energy beam device. A plurality of perforations are formed in the septum through the top skin holes using the energy beam device. A plurality of cavities in the core structure fluidly couple at least some of the perforations in the top skin with at least some of the perforations in the septum.
