The system is operable to be used with a drill-string in a wellbore during a drilling process to mitigate stick-slip vibration of the drill-string.

The system includes a sensor positioned proximate to a drill-string and proximate to a surface of the wellbore. The sensor is configured to sense a surface condition and generate measurement data. The system also includes a receiver configured to receive the measurement data from the sensor. The system also includes a processor configured to calculate a downhole measurement based on the measurement data and analyze the downhole measurement to identify the dysfunction.

A method for automatically controlling drilling weight-on-bit for using a drill-string to drill along a wellbore includes establishing a drill-string model and a wellbore model, wherein the drill-string has a plurality of components along the length thereof, and the wellbore has a plurality of sections. A surface tension data of the drill-string can be acquired, and a friction coefficient-depth distribution can be obtained by calibrating the surface tension data in the drill-string model and wellbore model, and the drilling weight-on-bit can be predicted according to the calibrated drill-string and wellbore models.

An improved in-field referencing(IFR1) technique is provided, wherein a single mid-lateral well measurement of local magnetic field is used. In one aspect of directional drilling, a single set of IFR values for a planned well is obtained. The single set of IFR values is captured at a single location in a mid-lateral section of the planned well. A global magnetic model corresponding to the Earth's magnetic field is obtained. An improved magnetic model is generated by correcting the global magnetic model for local anomalies using the single set of IFR values.

The present disclosure relates to a particularly effective well configuration that can be used for SAGD and other steam based oil recovery methods. Fishbone multilateral wells are combined with SAGD, effectively expanding steam coverage. Preferably, an array of overlapping fishbone wells cover the pay, reducing water use and allowing more complete production of the pay.
