There is provided a system that includes a tunable amplification module, a coupler, an interface module; a detector that is arranged to output an impedance indicative signal and a power indicative signal; wherein the impedance indicative signal is indicative of an impedance mismatch between an output impedance of the tunable amplification module and an impedance of a radio frequency (RF) antenna as seen by the tunable amplification module, wherein the power indicative signal is indicative of an output power of the tunable amplification module.

Tunable system and method for tuning a system

Techniques for interfacing a set of active elements with an antenna array. In one exemplary embodiment, the active elements include a plurality of signal paths, each signal path including a mixer coupled to a local oscillator (LO) signal having an adjustable phase. When the active elements are to be interfaced with an unbalanced antenna, the phase of the LO signal for each signal path coupled to the unbalanced antenna may be adjusted independently of the other signal paths. When the active elements are to be interfaced with a balanced antenna, the phases of the LO signals for the two signal paths coupled to the balanced antenna are adjusted to differ by &#x3c0; radians from each other. The techniques may be applied in either receiver or transmitter applications to provide a flexible interface between an antenna array and an integrated circuit (IC) without the use of baluns.

Configurable antenna interface

Briefly, in accordance with one embodiment of the invention, a multi-mode receiver comprises a programmable baseband module to filter a modulated signal according to the characteristics of the receiving mode. The programmable baseband module may further comprise a programmable convolver capable of switching between the receiving modes of the multi-mode receiver by programming an impulse response of a filter to the programmable convolver.
