A method of preparing 5-nitrofurfural diacetate which comprises nitration furfural or furfural diacetate at a temperature within the range of from -10.degree. to +10.degree. C; said nitration being effected by the gradual simultaneous addition of furfural or a furfural diacetate solution in acetic anhydride and a mixture of nitric and sulphuric acids into acetic anhydride at a temperature within the range of from -10.degree. to +10.degree. C under continuous stirring of the reaction mixture. In doing so, molar proportions of furfural or furfural diacetate and nitric acid and sulphuric acid are maintained equal to 1:1.1-2:0.036-0.041 respectively and said compounds are added into acetic anhydride at such rates as to maintain the nitration reaction temperature at a predetermined level. The reaction mixture resulting from the nitration is treated with water at a weight ratio between water and the starting acetic anhydride ranging from 1.1:1 to 1.8:1 respectively and at a temperature within the range of from 0.degree. to 15.degree. C; the reaction mixture is then neutralized with an alkali to a pH = 3.5 - 5 at a temperature within the range of from 0.degree. to 25.degree. C, maintained at a temperature of from 45.degree. to 55.degree. C, and the desired product is thereafter isolated from said reaction mixture.

Method of preparing 5-nitrofurfural diacetate

A method of preparing N.sub.1 -(2'-furanidyl)-substituted uracils having the general formula ##STR1## where R is selected from the group consisting of hydrogen, halogen, and alkyl, consists in that 2,3-dihydrofuran is processed with anhydrous hydrogen chloride in a medium of an organic chlorinated aliphatic hydrocarbon solvent, and the thus formed product is reacted with 2,4-bis-(trimethylsilyloxy)-5R-substituted pyrimidines at a temperature not above 10.degree. C with subsequent isolation of the end product.

Method of preparing N.sub.1 -(2'-furanidyl)-5-substituted uracils

A process for producing N.sub.1 -(.alpha.-butyrolactone)- and N.sub.1 -(.alpha.-valerolactone)-5-substituted uracils of the formula: ##SPC1## Wherein R.sub.1 is hydrogen, methyl, a trihalomethyl or a halogen; R.sub.2 is hydrogen or an alkyl, n = 1 or 2, characterized in that a bis(trimethylsilyl)-5-substituted uracil of the formula: ##SPC2## Wherein R.sub.1 is hydrogen, methyl, a trihalomethyl or a halogen, is treated with an .alpha.-bromolactone of the formula: ##SPC3## Wherein R.sub.2 is hydrogen or an alkyl, n = 1 or 2. The reaction is conducted at a temperature ranging from 80.degree. to 160.degree.C. From the reaction mixture thus obtained there is distilled off the resulting trimethylbromosilane formed during the reaction, and the reaction mixture is treated with a lower aliphatic alcohol.
