A biocompatible bone graft for implanting into a bone wound site or screening a bone disease drug, comprising a porous scaffold structure made from a tannin-hydroxyapatite resin, a population of osteocompetent stem cells, and a growth medium. Methods of synthesis and physical characterization of the porous scaffold structure are described, as well as biological testing of the osteocompetent stem cells of the bone graft.

A thermo-set resin composition comprising a Quebracho wood tannin extract, a furfuryl alcohol, a neoprene compound, a dimethicone, polyethylene glycol, abrasive particles, and a glycerol phosphate acidic ester and/or graphite. Further, a method of preparing the thermo-set resin composition including mixing Quebracho wood tannin extract with a furfuryl alcohol to form a primary mixture, adding additives and abrasive particles to the primary mixture, and reacting the primary mixture by adding a catalyst. The thermo-set resin composition is molded into a shape under heat and pressure to a Brinell hardness 8.5 daN/mmand 48 daN/mmand can be incorporated into a friction pad of a brake pad.

The method of detecting leukemia involves placing a suspension of red blood cells in a reservoir having a capillary tube partially immersed in the reservoir. An alternating current is applied to electrodes (one in the reservoir, the other in the capillary tube) at different frequencies. The electrical resistance is measured at the interface between the electrode and the suspension in the capillary tube. At the same time, CCD (charge coupled device) cameras take images, both top views and side views. The electrical resistance will show a peak at a characteristic resonant frequency, which is different for cancerous blood cells than for normal blood cells. The CCD images will show a pattern of maximum repulsion from the electrode at the resonant frequency in the top view, and minimum height of blood cells on the side of the electrode at the resonant frequency in the side view.
