A single shell side-view mirror assembly is disclosed which provides improved aerodynamic features and improved vibrational resistance characterized by an aerodynamically domed shell structure, interchangeable mirror elements, an electrically activated vibration dampening element and a static vibration dampening elements. A mirror unit of the mirror assembly is disposed within a shell housing but is coupled directly to and supported by a support member mounting plate such that the mirror unit is substantially rigidly coupled to a support member without being supported by the shell housing.

A strut assembly for supporting an external element (for example, a mirror) to the body of a vehicle includes a plurality of strut portions, a first strut portion of which is operatively coupled to the external element and a second strut portion of which is operatively coupled to a portion of the vehicle body, and a support bracket operatively engaging, at a first end thereof, both the portion of the vehicle body and the second strut portion and, at a second end thereof, the frame of the vehicle such that vibrations of the external element are reduced.

Mount for vehicular mirrors

A mount for securing the staff of a mirror to a vehicle includes a plastic, integrally molded body which defines an interior chamber with a peripherally extending edge shaped to mate and fit the vehicle surface to which the mount body is to be secured. A clamping plate is disposed within the interior chamber and several screws, accessible through the exterior of the mount body, engage the mounting plate and are capable of being tightened to pull the clamping plate and thus secure between the interior surface of the mount body and the clamping plate the staff which holds the mirror element.

A grounding strap including a strap of flexible, electrically conductive material, the strap having a plurality of holes therethrough spaced equidistantly along a portion of the strap, a threaded nut fastened to the strap at an aperture in the strap at a location near one end thereof, a projection near the one end for engaging a hole in the strap when the strap is wrapped around a grounded member such that the portion with the hole engaging the projection is on top of the portion of the strap having the projection, the holes in the strap being spaced so that when a first hole in the strap is above the projection, a second hole in the strap is approximately above the threaded nut, a separate member loosely fastened to the strap and positioned near the nut and being arranged such that a surface of the member is disposed below the nut, the nut receiving a tightening screw, whereby when the strap is wrapped about the grounded member, the screw is insertable through the second hole and screwable into the nut so as to bear down on the surface of the member, forcing the nut upwardly away from the member and tightening the strap around the grounded member.
