It is an object of one or more embodiments of the present disclosure to provide a battery charger with a constant current control loop, for use in linear and switching chargers. Advantages include digital controls and a comparator, for decreasing charging current towards termination. The technique of the disclosure eliminates a constant voltage loop and amplifier, without increasing charging time. The technique also simplifies porting the design to another process technology node, and reduces size.

Battery charger with constant current control loop

An under-voltage lockout (UVLO) circuit configured for indicating that an electronic device may be enabled and disabled based on threshold levels of a power supply voltage. The UVLO circuit has a non-differential comparator configured to have a fixed threshold voltage. A voltage divider having a first terminal connected to the power supply voltage and configured to adapt a compare signal applied to the non-differential comparator to be proportional the power supply voltage such that a desired threshold voltage for the power supply voltage causes the non-differential comparator to change its output state. The UVLO circuit has a hysteresis controller configured for adjusting the compare voltage such that the power supply voltage has at least two threshold voltages to cause the non-differential comparator to change states. The non-differential comparator comprises a flipped gate transistor with a gate-to-source threshold greater than a normally gated transistor.

Nano power under-voltage lockout circuits (UVLO) using flipped-gate MOS

A system is disclosed which provides feedback voltage DC level cancelling for a configurable output of a DC-DC switching converter. By simplifying the design, the operational amplifier can be used for a wider output voltage range. Extension of the usage case to a Boost DC-DC switching converter can give noticeable performance improvements. Offset introduction using a flying capacitor is attractive because it does not require trimming. The proposal also allows for improvements for DC-DC switching converters designed for lower supply voltages, with no decrease in the differential input signal swing.

Feedback voltage DC level cancelling for configurable output DC-DC switching converters

A transient response circuit provides faster transient response time of an electronic device so that less overshoot or undershoot of an output signal of the electronic device occurs when a large load and/or line transient signal is present at an input and/or output terminal of the electronic device. The transient response circuit has a transient detection circuit and an assist circuit. The transient detection circuit monitors a feedback signal applied to an input terminal of the control stage, and generates transient detection signals indicating that detection of a large load and/or line transient signal has occurred. The assist circuit communicates receives the transient detection signal and charges or discharges a loop filter capacitor of the control stage for causing the control stage to regulate the output signal to decrease overshoot or undershoot upon receipt of the transient detection signal.

Type III switching converter error amplifier with fast transient response behavior

A high precision voltage reference circuit is disclosed which replaces two current bias sources, with a single current mirror. Curvature-error correction is established with a modified current mirror circuit. Another object of this disclosure is the addition of a MOSFET device, to alleviate the output voltage variation, due to the channel modulation effect of the origin of the voltage reference.

A preferred implementation of a switching converter with a versatile current sensor is achieved, by adding an integrator for instant sense current in the switching converter. The integrator calculates the average current of the switching converter and includes both positive and negative current sensing. The current sensor's response time is determined by the integrator coefficient and therefore not limited by the bandwidth of the current sensor. Performance degradation in the current sensor due to offset current is removed and the current sensor does not require a voltage reference or a current reference. High accuracy current monitoring and current sensing is achieved without an external sense device. The integrator of the current sensor serves to boost the gain of the switching converter.

Versatile current sensor for switching regulator

Pipeline analog-to-digital converters (ADCs) are used in many applications, but because of the configuration, components may be idled, which wastes power. Here, an ADC is provided that enables one or more stages to be switched off during a power conservation mode. By using switch networks, the ADC can produce accurate results with reduced power consumption, as desired.
